The Lama

The Lama

The one-l lama,
He's a priest.
The two-l llama,
He's a beast.
And I will bet
A silk pajama
There isn't any
Three-l lllama.*

-- Ogden Nash

*The author's attention has been called to a type of conflagration known
as a three-alarmer. Pooh.

[Nash's appended footnote -- nice coda]

The pictures stimulate questions, so are nicely selected. I'd be curious to see a scan of the contacts, when they are wet-printed.

Could there be a new theme for a thread there ? Contacts plus, say, three to five selected shots ?

Very nice photos all of them. I particularly like the second one from above.

Btw. we also call them lamas :) maybe they are some sort of priests, who knows?

That theme is a very important one... Imprecise exposing and/or developing of B&W is being solved long ago with scanning and photoshop. Not only the final printing is of less quality, but also slide film is gradually becoming less used by photographers... Decades ago, it was the normal and desired media, even for hobbists... It certainly has some importance from more than one point of view... Black and white requires the same precission as slide film, but most people just don't want to take such care either. There are exceptions...

Cheers,

Juan

Well, I wasn't at all bothered about the technical side of things. I am certain that the OP is very competent.

I was thinking of what ideas were considered, which shots were made and then which selected for showing. The development (pun intended) of the pictorial thoughts throughout a rather unusual afternoon in other words.

I think this would be a great idea, why don't you open that one?

This pis is my absolute favorite, great photo work! My guess is that combination of Yashica Electro 35 GTN plus Fomapan 100/Rodinal 1+50 works very well. I never had such beautiful and life-like results (with Electro 35 GS in my case).

Any personal advises? Did you use any iSO Dial compensation?

Thanks in advance and all the best!!

+1 Excellent !
Any advise on repeating these results with an Electro would be great.

I don't realy do anything special,
only a few things to remind.
First of all I know how to develop films for a long time now,
I know the time of developing, I tested that many times and I have a proved workflow.
F. e. Fomapan 100 I use at 100 ASA and develop it most times in Rodinal 1+50 at 7 min. somtimes I use A49 but I prefer Rodinal or R09.
My cameras mostly comes not in a very good condition when I buy them, so I have to clean and to adjust them.
To adjust the rangfinder sharpness control window I put a book in front of the camera at a distance of 39,37 inches and focus it with the focus ring on the lense using a screen on the backside of the open camera,
than I adjust the viewfinder to that distance.
So all subjects at a distance of 39,37 inches are realy sharp on my films.
I never had problems with the shutterspeed, the copal shutter works fine.
To test that I shot a small film with every f-stop om a tripod and if all negatives are ok,
it's fine.
I have to tell, I have a 9.2913 inch roll of fomapan 100,
so I can make small films with only 12 photos.

The photo of my very best girlfriend fits perfect to the camera,
her face is on the right site of the picture and there exactly is the sensor of the lightmeter.
I focus on her face and then I turn the camera left, that was all.
Have to say the f-stop was at f 4 at that moment.

Love the second one, and the one in post 11, but the first looks to me as though the central character has an out-of-focus robotic arm (sorry, but that's what I saw at first glance).

The 'll' is the Spanish 'y' sound -- 'yama' -- hence the use of l.l in Catalan, where 'collection' would be 'coiection' and col.lection would be 'collection'.

Cheers,

R.
