Hello everyone!

Firstly, I should say that I have pretty much no hands-on experience with film cameras. I was born into the age of digital, and I don't know what overcame me to buy an old FSU RF. Anyway, I finally took delivery of a Zorki 4 and FED 2 today (I can't believe how cheap they are!)

I've come into a problem with the shutter release mechanism on the Zorki. I'll do my best to describe what happens, and I'd be extremely grateful if anyone can help me at all.

When I press the shutter down (usually faster speeds around 1/250), there's a half-click, as if the curtain moves slightly, and when I release my finger, then the shutter fires. I took off the back to observe this, and noticed that the curtain does in fact move a few millimetres when I press down initially, and then finishes firing when I release. I know that this definitely isn't normal because the shutter should fire in one smooth action; not an initial jerk, then normal fire.
(I can take a video of this if my description was too confusing.)

Does anyone know what I should do next? Is this a curtain tension problem? Or should I be trying to clean the firing/shutter mechanism as per the CLA guide (though I fear damaging my 'new' camera...)?

I don't think sending it to get fixed is really an option because I'm all the way down in Sydney. I am yet to put a single roll of film through it, and I want to get it right the first time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I hope this isn't the beginning of a very slippery slope...

Cheers,
Josh

I hope someone can help me with my problem. I recently acquired a cheap c mount lens and adapter from Ebay. I just tried using it but the LCD screen remains blank when I turn on the camera. When installing this adapter into the m4/3 bayonet mount on the E-P1, I hear a distinctive click. I tried it using manual mode and all settings to MF. When I turn the camera on without a lens I see light on the lcd. It is not a problem of the lens it is a problem with the adapter. I can see that the adapter touches the electronic on the body as soon as I just attach it (not even turned to position).

1) Does your c mount adapter touch the body electronics as well ?

2) May it have to do with the 1.4 Frimware ?

3)Also I read somthing about an issue that untill the Lens-Release needle ( or whatever is it's name) is back in it's normal (not depressed) position, the camera's sensor will be off, and you will only see a black field with numbers on it. Drilling the hole for the needle shall solve the problem. How to do that and where is that needle? Thanks.

That is the adapter. Avoid !

I bought another IIIc, couldn't pass on the deal. It has a problem with a light leak that looks like it's coming past the bottom plate. It has no vulcanite, just bare metal but I have recovered before. It also has a lot of the paint flaked off on the inside of the bottom cover. The light leak shows up orange on Superia. I am now trying the bottom cover from another IIIc , I swapped them, to see if the leak changes cameras with the bottom cover. I was curious if anyone knows what that fuzzy feeling paint on the inside of the bottom cover is and where I can get some. It's absence may be the problem and just to make it look better. The orange streak shows up in the left sky of the pictures.

Can anyone recommend a nice budget lens (somewhere between 28 and 50mm) get me going until I can afford a proper lens unit? I don't think I can stand having this camera body lying around helpless, begging me for something to do for the next half year. :o

A very different experience from shooting with my Nikon Digital SLRs. A slower and more thoughtful process attentive to exposure, etc. All photos were made with a Serenar 50mm f/1.8 on Tmax film and scanned with a Canon 8800f. I plan to process the film myself in the future and can see that dust is a major problem. I need to get a program that will handle that. I am having a great time and look forward to expanding my range. Critique and comments always welcome.

So there's some gear (well really, an M9 & Stupid fast glass) i'd like to try but have no way to shoot it without first buying it... right...

I wonder if there is any interest in a "pool" of stuff we can meet up & shoot with to see how it is.

I can start by offering my little collection:

15mm CV f4.5 & finder LTM
35mm f/2 Googled Ver.1 - 8 element
35mm Canon f2.8 LTM
50mm DR
50mm Canon f/1.2 LTM
50mm Summirit LTM
90mm f/2 2nd version Black
135mm Canon f3.5 LTM
135mm Hecktor LTM
M6ttl with motor Perfect
IIIf working perfectly

I have all the B&W filters for every lens, if you want to learn firsthand about filtering... and a darkroom that will do up to 10x10 negs... and a Wet Plate portable darkbox. (8x10, whole different story)

Thanks!~

I just obtained a CLE kit at a bargain price - the camera surely is a joy to handle with - but there seems to be some problem with the shutter.

When testing, the shutter fires accurately with the film chamber opened; however it seems to be some 2 to 3 stops slower with film installed, and a lot more slower without the film.

That is, if my meter reads a 1/30s (which I found out to be accurate comparing to my other cameras' meters), the shutter goes right at 1/30s with the film chamber open, and it's like 1/8s when I put a roll of film in, some 3 seconds without the film.

In manual mode every stop fires accurately. I understand that the CLE uses a sophisticated OTF metering system...but am I still missing something here? Thanks.
