Has anyone noticed that those CV SLR lenses are getting great reviews, built beautifully, small and have great optics? Pete Smith, of Nikonsmith, tested a couple of them for me (the 40mm and 58mm) and was blown away by how sharp they are. Plus they are chipped so if Nikon ever comes out with a Nikon FM/FE like digital you will be ready to go. OK I am done shilling for Voigtlander.:)

I saw a seller on the auction site claiming this could be done. Anyone try it? This might be a good solution for a damaged prism from an OM1 or OM2 since the OM10 can be inexpensive.

I'm looking for something to make my Oly OM-2N a little more grippy. That is, I often carry it in my right hand, gripping the right side of the camera. Life would be better if I could put it in something like a half case.

As far as I know, half cases weren't made for the OM series. I wonder of any of the OM users out there have improvised something.

I am thinking of selling my M4(primarily due to lack of use) and hanging on to the F as my film camera. Now I own the 24f2.8, 55f3.5 Micro, 105f2.5, and 200f4 lens for the Nikon. They are arguably the lenses that made Nikon famous and perhaps are as good as anything made today.

Having said that I am wondering what very fast (1.4 or 1.2) normal would be recommended? I don't know much about the fast 50's for Nikon as I just did not use that focal length in college back in the early 70's. So what is recommended?

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has sold all of the their Nikon gear to switch to a Canon set up. I have a D90 and a lot of prime lenses. I am considering selling it all and switching to a Canon 7D with a 17-40mm lens. Any regrets? What did you think about Canon gear over the Nikon.
Thanks

The other day I was playing with my Minolta X-700 and I noticed a few annoying specks of dust in the VF that would not be dislodged with a rocket blower or even a camel's hair brush. Turned out it was on top of the focusing screen :(. So I carefully removed the screen and the dust, but while I was doing it I noticed a sort of uneven haze on the bottom of the prism. I thought "oh, well, I better give that a bit of a clean too". Whatever was on there was very difficult to remove and I ended up using Eclipse fluid (which I originally bought to clean the sensor of my old D70), lots of Pec Pads and many, many cotton swabs :bang:. But eventually I got it all off (let's just say it got a lot worse before it got better). Replacing the focusing screen was a good deal less nerve-wracking than removing it. Then I put the lens back on and...

Drum roll, please...

When I looked through the viewfinder I was blown away by how clear and bright it was. It's just... unbelievable for a 23-y.o. camera :D. I don't ever remember it being like that even when it was new (it's a one-owner) and wonder if that grunge has been there all along.

Anyway, while I cannot universally recommend this procedure (steady hands and a lot of patience are required), if you have an old camera with a removable screen it might be worth taking it out and shining a bright light on the base of the prism to see what it looks like - whether you decide to take it further is up to you, but I'm stoked that I did! (FWIW, Nikon screens are a lot easier to remove than Minolta ones, if you have the right tool)

Hope this info is useful to someone!
Scott

I'm mainly an RF guy with Leica M, and in love with OM system for film SLR. That said, I've been asked to do some paid photo shoots here and there, and while I have no intension of doing photography for living, I decided to take occasional gigs. (My old hobby of graphic design became my full-time job so I'd like to keep photography as a fun hobby)

My mind is pretty much set with Pentax K-7 because of small size, D300/7D class body construction and quiet shutter compared to Nikon/Canon DSLRs. And you can't really beat the price.

Can I see your favorite shots with K-7 with either Pentax lens or M42 and other lenses? What's your experience with 3rd party lenses? (all non-native-K-mount lenses)

And, anyone here doing paid gigs with K-7?
