Hello,

Is there any Adobe Lightroom Preset for Epson R-D1(s) look for M8/M9?

Background: We are planning on creating a photo album for our kids and we have been looking through some old pictures that were shot with R-D1(s) and some of the pictures we really, really like the "look" of them!!! Now we wish that we can process some of the current pictures that we shot with M8u and produce the similar look as R-D1(s)...

I did some internet search for such presets for lightroom but could not find any...

Does anyone know if such presets exist and if so, where I can find them?

Thank you.

Peter.

Since the price is reasonable for such a fast lens, I am wondering those of you who bought one, how do you like it on your M8 and or M9? Another question is how many of you own a Noctilux, and bought this lens as well. I own both the f1.0 Noctilux and the 35 f1.2 Nokton as my high speed lenses, but for the price, the Nokton f1.1 may be a good second fast 50mm when I do not feel like lugging a Noctilux around. It also offers a slightly different look, so owning a Nokton may not be a bad idea since it wont break the bank account.

I haven't used my M8 extensively in a bit and picked it up over the past few weeks. Didn't quite notice this issue until tonight when I used it with a *new* Canon 50/1,2.

It seems that the M8 just ignores my setting for slowest speed on Auto ISO. I set it on 1/15 and the camera will just choose even slower shutter speed than that.

Anyone encountered this issue? I updated to 2.005 hoping it will go away, but it still happens. Am I doing something wrong or do I remember how Auto ISO works on the M8?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,
I am searching for a nice standard Prime for my new Leica M8. I know, the Leica pendants are the best you can get for money, but I am looking for a fast 35mm or 50mm Prime which I can afford. At the moment, I use the M8 with a borrowed Leica 35mm Canada Summicron, - a nice lens, but not as fast as I want. I am able to spend sth. around 1000 dollar (800€) for the prime. At the moment my favourite is the Voigtländer Nokton 50mm 1.1, but I am worried about the focusing issue, is it easy to focus such a fast 50mm at the crop-M8? My second favourite is the Voigtländer 35mm 1.4, - its quite cheap, but many people say that it produces very soft images at 1.4. Whats your opinion? Which prime should I choose?

I get very regular requests on how to properly use them on the digital M's, particularly on the M9 given the "red edge" issues it is prone to. I've put together the following blog post with a lot of "how-to" information that some of you here might find useful.

First of all, I apologise if this sounds too basic and has already been addressed (most like it is). I saw a few 50 Summicrons over the last few months, where the prices ranges from 700 Euro to ~1500 euros, the ones I'm referring here are all very good (according to the seller, from RFF, LUF, FM and GetDPI).

IIRC, I saw a few things on AntiqueCameras, but they are bit confusing to me. Can you please give me a basic idea about the variation of the quality (, if any) and anything else that I should be aware of? Thank you.

I love my M8 and Noctilux, but sometimes I wish I could use another method of focus to make sure what I actually see is sharp where I want it. Yes, I too have used SLR's, and I know there are lenses out there like the Nikon 55mm Noct f1.2 that come close, but I have too much investment in M glass and do not feel like blowing more money on a new camera system and separate lenses. So here, we have a few choices. My M8 of corse, the M9 which is out of my budget for now, the Micro 4/3 cameras which seem interesting but the crop factor is too much for me, and I do not like increasing my distance to reframe the subject and not have the same shallow depth of field with larger sensor cameras at closer distances. We finally have the NEX system by Sony which is a little larger than Micro 4/3, but not enough I feel. It seems to be that I have 4 choices. Continue with the M8/9 and get upset once in awhile when something is not quite in focus at f1.0, live with the crop of a Micro 4/3 solution, Live with the crop of the Sony, wait until there is a full frame EVF camera that wil take M lenses, or buy a new camera system (SLR) and use the Nikon Noct. I have used many types of cameras for over 25 years professionally , so I am aware of the issues I face. So what would all of you do? So far my hit rate with the Noctilux is around 80% as far as focus goes. Sometimes I am off (my eyes at 45 are not what they were 25 years ago).

Hi,

I was at a workshop with Costa Manos in 2008 and he was talking about how the one thing that really bothered him about the M8 was that his framelines were inaccurate. He's an old-school leica photographer who disciplines himself to frame well in the finder, not with the cropping tool.

I thought of him when they announced the M8.2 and the new finder lines optimized from 1 meter to 2 meters...how that would be so much better. I recently read that they returned to the 1 meter optimized finder for the M9.

How do you find the accuracy of the framelines? Attached is a graphic from leica showing the M8/M8.2 frameline comparisons.

thanks
