DFW camera show Oct 1-2 2011

Any DFW RFFers going to the camera show in October? I haven't been to one of these since before the turn of the century. Back then they were mostly overpriced junk since eBay had most ofthe good stuff. Although it might be a good excuse for a beer and gear meet up...

I'd be game for a meet and greet in October but tbh Im not really interested in going to a camera show. Especially one that weekend.

I mean, unless I can get some stuff at 2009 prices, in which case I could make it on the 2nd.

Well, one Good thing about the high prices is that it'll keep me from buying!

Either day is good for me. I'd probably hit it early on Sat. then meet for lunch afterwards.

Here's a link to Don's Photo, the show's sponsor:

http://www.donsphotoequipment.com/

I plan on going, and I would be interested in meeting up with some local RFF'ers.

Yes, there's plenty of overpriced stuff at camera shows, just as there is on the 'bay. Favors a discriminating buyer. Still, it can be a good place to trade, or put your hands on something without actually buying it.

Let me know about beer 'n gear.

The wife says that Sunday would work better with her plans. I haven't been to grapevine in a while. What are good places to meet? There used to be a decent Tex-Mex place called esparza's. Any suggestions?

I'd almost fly in for a beer 'n' gear at a tex-mex place!.Born in Fort Worth and raised in Dallas (I still own a house in Arlington) I'm as DFW as it gets, but I've been in the Bay Area for 20 years. Boy! do I miss mexican food! Grapevine has a convention center?!?

Well, they call it a convention center. Let's just say Grapevine has a Convention Center appropriate for a small town/suburb of its size.

The camera show pretty much fills up the room, but that's not saying much.

The show is better at some times than others. But, I think that's typical. Camera shows are not what they used to be, before online shopping.

Esparza's is a good tex-mex place.

Is that where you picked up your Canon 7s, with 50mm F/0.95 lens? Nice kit.

Thanks for your kind comment :-) By the way, I bought 2 sets off evilbay long ago. probably in 2004. The set that you see just a combining of 2 sets together. Of course, I did pick the best. One set I just picked the lens and another set just the body :-)

Are there regular beer and gear events in DFW?

If you haven't been, the Rahr brewery tours are a good place to see a cross section of the local characters.

I'm coming in for the Fair (and a dose of BBQ and tex-mex) on the 10/11-15. My mouth's watering already. Colyn, don't be too sad about my move to the Bay Area. Our temps have been in the 70s and 80s all summer!

Sazerac, are you talking about Sunday?

I think I'll be at the show Saturday, kind of early-ish. I prefer Saturday only because, as a buyer, I think the selection may be better.

Other than that, I would enjoy meeting up with other DFW RFF'ers.

To answer your earlier question, I'm not aware of any beer 'n gear events here. I'm from the Dallas County side, so I was unaware of the Rahr Brewery. I have since googled it, and it looks like fun. Anyhoo, I would be up for a beer 'n gear event in the future, if it doesn't work out for this weekend.

I was thinking Sunday, but could negotiate a Saturday kitchen pass if a mojority of folks prefer Saturday.

Rahr's a good place, but I'm not one of those folks who doesn't cross county lines - Dallas is good for me too!

Funny you should mention it. Yeah, there are some people who won't cross the county line. I think some Ft. Worth people get tired of the perception of being second banana to Dallas. Although I live in Dallas, I always like going to Ft. Worth. Lots of great attractions-- Stockyards, museums, Water Gardens, Japanese Gardens, Sundance Square, zoo, great restaurants on Camp Bowie, etc.

Let's see if we can scrounge up a meeting this weekend, and go from there.

I am going on Sunday. I have a prior engagement Saturday evening in Addison.

Im going to try and go 8-12 drive time inclusive. I have football to watch and I don't think Ill be there to buy seriously.

Can you generally pay with a credit card there? I hate cash.
