I deleted my Film Forum thread

I deleted my Film Forum thread

Thanks to those who expressed concern as to what happened to my thread suggesting a Film Forum be set up.

While most responses were favorable - and some in opposition were polite - a negative tone began to develop with one member labelling the idea "nonsense" and challenging me to respond.

I took the high road and ignored him (no it wasn't who you are thinking) and chose to delete the thread rather than have it turn into another diatribe.

I still think a forum for sharing info on film usage, deals, etc. would be nice but don't want to be the cause of any "flame wars".

Come on George, deleting it and starting another only leads to further the tension, just leave it next time. If I remember most folks were gung-ho on the idea anyway.

George: Great decision. While living with someone I loved very much but who had the "teenage daughters from Hell", I was counselled to "choose your battles", and I didn't really understand and didn't do it, to my great, great loss.

I am sorry George for not being present at the thread and offer a polite support. No one has the right to call else's proposal "nosense". Specially at these days of awareness.
Cheers,

If this is where the high road leads, I don't think it's one I choose to travel.

Well lets get the original thread back on track again George - i'd like to see a film forum that would suport questions regarding film and film > scanning hybrid methods of working. Pnet has many splits of catagories when it comes to these subjects and it makes searching the archives much easier.

I'm still 100% behind the idea. Sorry that you felt you had to delete the original thread.

a film forum has been suggested in the past but i'm not sure that anyone has ASKED jorge about it.
we did have a sticky for film deals but that sorta died out.

i also suggested a forum for hand held meters but that went no where.

An alternative proceeding for George could have been to contact Joe via prived messages. And an alternative proceeding for Joe now could be addressing, with his well known polite tone, the real issue of this thread.
Nevertheless we all, me first, have much to learn about public street behaviour, and we all will do. No one here has discovered America and we all have a long path to go.
Sorry again dear George, I was not present at your thread for help.
Cheers,
Ruben

George why don't you send Jorge a PM and ask for the forum and if you want to, link to this thread?

I think its a good idea too!

I hope the contrary.

Basically in my opinion, aggressive tones at RFF come by influence of the world as it is. And our capability or not to discrimate between the all aggressive surrounding and the situations in which we must be alert about it and not let the aggressive mood be transfered to, our families for example, or RFF.

By the same coin, in its reversed side, what happens when we are offended at home ? do we slap back ? do we swallow in silence ? do we leave home ?

Since home is very much each one's domain, I will say what I do. First in extreme cases, in which I am in a weak state of mind and I am offended OR feel I am, I may leave the salon for the balcony to smoke a cigarette.

But when I am in a balanced strong mood and then my beloved daughter out of the blue turns aggressive, I ussually rebuke her with a good dose of humour, ridiculizing her mood, driving her a bit nuts for her aggression not being taken seriously. Mainly I educate by example. Sometimes I have a small talk.

With kids it is easy, but with kids of big size and advanced age we find it rather problematic and not as easy. Therefore we kill each other at the street without thinking twice. Nevertheless the princinple is the same.

If our good friend and constant contributor leaves our forum, he will only be extending further the original swing of the offense. And I am not sure at all that the member calling George idea "nosense" meant to say YOU SPEAK NONSENSE THEREFORE GET OUT OF THE FORUM !

But obviously the offender was not aware of more than a lot of things. And certainly if I was present at the thread, I would have a lenghty prived exchange with this guy, who I cannot identify since George deleted the thread.

I have faith in George overcoming this disgusting episode, and no one will harm by showing his appreciation to him and calling for his renewed contribution.

But the real issue is what we will do next time any of us becomes offended. Will our good folks present at the thread keep quiet in order not to stain themselves, or will they take an ACTIVE attitude towards the offender, via prived talk first, and public condemnation second, in case the offender doesn't retract.

Those are in my opinion the options we have, before moderators take action.

Cheers,
Ruben

Wow... that's a bit of a surprise. Maybe he'll come back as "Pancho"... or one of FrankG's various pen-names.

Tired of good members being chased off this forum, George started a lot of good W/NW threads and was a steady contributor to others...

Hmm I missed this so I'm not sure about this event however I have started threads for film reviews, and film deals in the past. Interest was stunningly underwhelming. I think that was what Joe refers to in this thread. So Copake wanted to start one. I would support it wholeheartedly. I just missed the thread. Don't know what the dust up was and don't want to know.

Copake leaving? He has left before and has come back. Usually the irresistable charm of RFF sings it's siren call and he succumbs. Just wait a while.

Mean while .. what about a "new forum" for film seems to be long overdue. How about it Jorge, Joe and Kim? What do you think.

cheers, Jan

As Joe said, if members want a change, it is Jorge's forum and only he has the power/right to do it.

PS, Don't forget Ralph!

i like the idea of a film forum.
i even asked jorge for a forum for hand held meters.

but it's his choice, not mine.

that's one of the reasons that i asked if anyone had approached jorge about it.
he does not read every post and may easily have missed the request.

and my asking does not insure we will get it.

Well, I hate to see people go that I enjoy reading posts from too. And I have sent some of them PMs when they had said they intended to leave, suggesting they reconsider. I will no doubt continue to do that in the future. Still, each individual must decide that for theirself. If a person feels that sure they cannot take whatever insults, criticism, suggestions, or whatever, they do well to leave I guess.

Just hate to see it too. But sometimes I wonder what is says about that individual. Maybe I am just too dumb and thick skinned to know better.
