Yashica Electro 35 Using filters

I just recently bought my first Yashica Electro 35 GSN, and I am wanting to use a colored filter for black & white film, but I do not know how to set the camera to compensate for the filter. Any advice?

Yes, "filter factor"... To do this on the GSN, you'll want to set the ASA dial to a number less than the number you would use for the given film without a filter.

Okay, I found it. The Yashica Guy has a downloadable users manual on his site that gives the filter factors in a chart. Very useful if you know the factor number of your filter, but some manufacturers don't always put it on the rim. You have to look them up on an information sheet that comes with the filter, or on a web site for that brand if you don't have the info sheet. A standard yellow filter is usually 1.5, so most all others will be the same. Unless it's a deep yellow, then it's a 2. I printed out the chart on card stock, then laminated it to keep in my camera bag.

The Yashica Guy made a filter factor correction table located here: http://www.yashica-guy.com/document/qa.html

You would only have to ascertain the filter factor correction number from your manufacturer, which is normally enclosed in the leaflet inside the filter, or in Wikipedia with the name of your filter.
