Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

Summicron Asph.

I find the elmarit very sharp but clinical. The bokeh is also better on the summicron, albeit price is almost double.

I don't have an M8, but I understand that the image quality at higher ISOs is not that great.

If so, then (for me), I would lean towards one of the faster lenses (28/2 Summicron or the CV Ultron), or the CV 28/1.9.

The small size of the 28/2.8 Elmarit ASPH would be nice, but really the 28/2 Summicron is what I would call a surprisingly compact lens (I use one on film Leicas).

Helen: Thanks. It is better for me to keep things as simple as possible. So I will head out the door in the morning with just a pocket full of film and body with 28mm lens. No bag to get in the way. Never stop to swap lenses. Just shoot.

The 28mm field of view puts me close to whoever I am photographing. That seems to build some sort of relationship which hopefully comes through in the photos. Plus that FOV allows me to include some of the environment in the frame. That seems to put the photo into some context.

Bob, I remember looking at your photos few years ago and it was definitelly a big source of inspiration for me. Keep up a good work mate.
