The lens hasn't started shipping yet. AFAIK it will be another month or two before the first batch goes out.

Thanks for your information! But as I know, there are some people already received this lens and mount on M9/9P or MM. Some digital color and B&W shoots have been posted in the other places. The outcome is not that good since the price is at the same level of the Nokton. So I hope to see more about this lens especially on films. : )

Kevin, you are correct. I heard there are five copies (basically prototypes) in the hands of the various dealers of MS Optical lenses. But that's it. None have yet been made available to anyone else.

An MTF is not necessarily helpful. I bought a Zeiss Sonnar-C 50/f1.5 on the expectation that the MTF was pretty good. What Zeiss didn't say was that the advertised performance was not available if the lens was focused on a camera because of the rather large focus shift. The performance was available if focus was corrected in other ways, such as moving the camera after focusing etc. The correction was a function of the focused distance and the aperture.

It exists and Zeiss has admitted to it. More pronounced on digital than film.

But honestly, this lens is quite soft when wide open. It's more like a copy of the antique fast lens.(sonnar design, old lens outlook) : (

Nice, it reminds me alot of the LTM Canon f1.2/50 @ f1.1 to f1.6, just a tad/touch bit sharper.......

I think it is safe to say we cannot tell a huge amount from those film scans yet concerning potential sharpness wide open under optimal conditions etc....
I think an interesting aspect of this lens is the size: if it turns out to be good at f1.6- then having f1- even if it is soft is a bonus. The problem with the canons, noktons, noctilux's and slr magics is the massive size and weight- this means they are left at home often- this lens could be a day/night all rounder.... I do wish it had click stops though and standard aperture dial...
this shot is interesting and sharpish: what f is it?

This is about a kilogram less than originally "rumoured". IF it's really about a pound heavy (i.e. half the weight of the Canon 50mm f/1.2 LTM), this wouldn't be such a bad thing to carry around.

Yes, the small size and weight was the main reason I jumped on this. Unless the lens turns out to be a complete dog, then it'll be a keeper.
I (hope) that this lens together with my 50mm Elmar-M or 50mm DR Summicron can pretty much cover any 50mm needs I could imagine, and indeed most of my photographic needs.

I enquired to buy this lens. I asked for samples or MTF. By the time they replied, I was told it was sold out....things sometimes seem to work out for the better in the end

Optical performance aside, anyone that's ever used a lens manufactured by MS Optical will know that they are rather quirky in use. Ergonomically well designed easy/fast to use lenses they are not. This new lens is no different in that regard. Having actually used this lens, rather than making it my workhorse 50, its definitely a lens I'd use every now and then for something a bit different or special.
