Flagellants. They do this every Lenten Season as a vow for a granted prayer or to atone for sins committed.

Incredible...

This is amazing behavior to me. I suppose this is just makes explicit the sacrifices people make to accommodate a religious belief (sacrificing comfort when laying on your back for example). Other sacrifices made are not so obvious but they are real.

Thanks for sharing!

There are also people who are crucified during this time of the year. It's for real , unbelievable but true. I have some pictures of that in one of my hard disks, I'll search when I have the time and post it here.

The Jesus Christ Is Lord Travel Center on Interstate 40 in Amarillo, Texas. Signs on the doors asked customers to refrain from swearing or using the Lord's name in vain while shopping there.

Only in Japan....of course, only in the USA will you find a truck stop called "Jesus Christ Is Lord", lol. I can't imagine how people here would flip out over a religious display that involved giant penis sculptures

Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de Regla (Church of Our Lady of Regla) for Catholics or Iglesia de Virgen de la Regla (Church of the Virgin of Regla) for Santerias. This church serves both religions simultaneously as the outward appearance of Santeria mimics Catholicism to appease the missionaries a century ago. Santeria is an West African-Cuban religion which has some elements of Catholicism as well as Voodoo.

This church is officially endorsed by Rome but everyone who lives in Regla, right across the harbor from downtown Havana Cuba, is Santeria.

No clue if this woman is praying to the Virgin Mary or to the Santeria diety, Yemaya. Either way, the Madonna is black although the child is white.
