The bird is a Great White Pelican. Not a native species but kept in St James Park since the 1660s. http://www.royalparks.org.uk/parks/s...a/pelicans.cfm

Never mind the pelican, what about the sinister squirrel...

Thanks Joe - there were actually two of them just hanging out with the guy on the bench, who I'm guessing probably comes to visit them a lot as they seemed very relaxed with him. They've been known to get themselves into trouble for eating the pigeons in the park, which can be distressing for tourists!
