Frank Jackson on Street Photography I am happy and excited to announce a new RFF forum on Street Photography mentored by Frank Jackson, one of the best producers of analog B/W prints I have ever seen. His shows include the Open Shutter Gallery, Heriard-Cimino Gallery, and Ogden Museum of Southern Art. His images are in the collections of Smithsonian Ogden Museum of Southern Art, California Afro American Museum and Xavier University New Orleans LA. He has worked for or has been featured with Visa Card, Xerox, UCLA, Eric Owen Moss, Architect, Hasselblad Forum (cover),Gordon Parks, Muhammed Ali, Million Man March Wash. DC, Lionel Hampton, jazz legion photographer , 1995-2002, Stevie Wonder, B+W Magazine (British version) twice, Rangefinder Magazine, Dahon Bicycles, Arelli Wheels, Real Product Design, Automobile Club of Southern California. Frank's online images are at fotographz.500px.com and fotographzfrankjackson.tumblr.com . "While on this diverse photographic journey…I have to say during this whole time my love for fine art black and white photography kept growing. I always found time to shoot in different cities and my own personal work…this has sustained me through some very tough times. As of 2012, with the help of a very good friend I maintain a state-of-the-art dream darkroom. The darkroom helps greatly in the on-going practice of understanding “the light”, being able to process film and print drives me to keep my digital photography “organic”. I’m curious visually and shooting what’s, what on the street feeds this curiosity. Everyday I walk out my front door to “see” the world with a digital camera, a film camera, the “cup” and an open mind (mostly).

Color Street Photography

As much as I like B&W, sometimes I like to go out with a P&S and shoot for color.

street doesn't have to be b&w only...it's a pretty colourful world out there.

That's correct. With digital cameras the color world is wide open to anyone.

Please share your color street photos, this is not my thread only.

I enjoyed Fred Herzog color photography of Vancouver.
Delightful.

Here is one part of Yonge St. I really like in colors, but unfortunately slide is gone in GTA.

Digital one.

I agree. I really like these shots -- there's a mood and a feel about them all. And it's clear there's a real appreciation for light, too.

I've got 4 E6 kits from argentix.ca sitting in my office right now. $40 a pop; will do 8+ rolls (12-16 in my experience).

It most certainly isn't.
You can still buy 50 and 100 ISO colour slide, and I get my E-6 processing done by Black's, (who ship it to a lab in Barrie that does their processing).
The turn-around is long-sometimes up to three weeks, but it is what it is. If one wants be a slide shooter in the Digital Sea, then one must put up with what one must put up with.

How much does Black's charge you? Are you able to develop film at home? If so, you can do E6 yourself for $3-5/roll (depending on how far you can push the kit) in about 30 min.

I wasn't aware that Black's was even accepting film these days.

Thank you both. I don't have any illusions about the difficulty of shooting color street photography, but I try every now and then. I have to say compared to b&w street shots, color ones can be more satisfying, at least to me.

They charge me about $15.00-16.00 per roll, but I've never had any interest in doing my own developing, so i just leave that to the experts.
