The fact that an actor (or at least, movie star) is a constant referent in the jacket threads is quite revealing. Who is more interested in taking pictures, and who is more interested in 'looking cool'?

Cheers,

R.

The 2 are not mutually exclusive.

Cheers,

I want to look cool!

Just one more reason not to wear a photo vest.

Some people here seem to pull it off though, commendable. I'd look like (more of ) a fool.

Btw, the best part of that movie was the Leicas....

I like the practicality of a vest but I look like a Dick in one, however I still use the Domke vest in 100+F temperature’s here. It’s been washed so often it’s looking a bit worn and ragged.

I guess it helps a little if you look like Brad Pitt but sadly not a lot of us do!

Ha! Thanks, I do what I can to class the joint up.

Actually, I have to wear a business suit for my day job, so much of the time it's just more convenient to go directly from the office to shooting events, etc. The side benefit is that people (in my world, anyway) tend to treat you w/a lot more respect when you're wearing a suit. Also, my 2 favorite photographers, Cartier-Bresson & Eggleston, were/are able to look snazzy while shooting (I'm sure being independently wealthy helped/helps a lot in that department).

The OP seems to pull the vest look off... most don't. Though I will say that old men look better in these vests than 20 year olds.

Jsrockit...ouch! I guess you're saying I'm old enough to pull off that look

I get called "old" at home enough by my daughters...I don't need it here too!

I've actually used one of these - very practical in hot weather - cooler than a vest and carries the weight very comfortably. But yes, not one to wear around town.

Some folks get away with just a belt pouch or two:

I've just ordered a Scottevest Lightweight travel vest after checking it out from one of the recommendations here. It's looks a little more subtle.

I think it's safe to say wardrobe was on a budget for this movie and the vest was meant to be expendable. "Cool" but expendable. It's probably checked into wardrobe storage right now. That is, if it did'nt fall apart.

Only our local newspaper shooters, and freelancers, seem to wear them as I have noted before on several occasions. One young intern wore that Tac chest combo except he did'nt have the water bottle or PBJ pouch!

Personally, I tend to perspire during warm/hot weather so I favor T-shirts (no, not the wife-beater style) or very light shirts and a carry bag. I do have hard cases for my MF gear.

I think if I were to ever try/buy a vest it would be a Domke. It looks nice and appears well-constructed.

The Domke is a very nice vest but the material is quite thick and very warm... I loose a couple off pounds when I ware it here but I manage to replace the body fat with excessive beer after the shoot...
