Capping the Lens Shade

I just received my JJC adapter and lens (shade or hood, your choice).

I choose not to use protective filters but I always use a lens shade. Ideally, the shade is left on the lens all the time. The whole JJC kit was just as nice as others have said it was — perfect fit. But, of course, the factory lens cap could not be used on the shade.

I scrounged through my junk box and found an old generic lens pinch cap, snapped it on the shade and plugged the hole.

Size? 58mm.

I'd like to do that. Believe it or not I have been carrying the hood and adapter in my bag separately and only using it in rain or if the light might interfere with the shot. I like the compact package of the capped lens, and I use the case as this camera is in my daily shoulder bag every day. There's nothing quite like the Leitz lenses with reversible hoods for keeping all options available. I'll never quite settle on a satisfactory solution for the X100 I suspect.

Of course, a little dust might enter through the cutouts, but I can blow it off once-in-a-while.

i have a case logic cam case that fits the hooded x100 perfectly. can't tell you the model number. it was $9, maybe at walmart. nice padding and a little zippered hidey hole in the lid for a spare battery. i'll try to remember to post pic, maybe tomorrow.
it offers good protection for riding in a car or on a scooter from one spot to the next. the case has a nice adjustable strap, too, if you've a mind for carrying it cased through rough spots. oh yeah, there's just enough room to fit the coiled upload cord, too ...

I do the same thing, well, I was doing the same thing until I realized the X100 for me seems to take better images with a Hoya 49 mm HMC UV(C) Filter. I went back and forth a few times. Filter on and filter off. Once I settled on using the filter I dont use the snap cap any more.

Paul, we have a fanny pack that's been in our possession for about 25 years. It houses the X100 with shade attached, spare battery, charger and cord, spare Sd card and cleaning supplies. It can be worn as conventional fanny pack or I usually just sling it over my shoulder.
