RFF Giveway Bounty: Komura 35mm 2.5

Johan kindly sent me a Komura 35mm 2.5 [Exakta mount] all the way from Europe to me in the USA. It is a heavy lens that seems to be well built, even though my example has a wobbly aperture ring. It is a lens that you have to close down before taking a photo.

I have a user's EXA SLR, which I loaded with XP2. I got back the scans this evening. The lens vignettes slightly with a shade and at f 22. The images look sharp to my eyes. Contrast is also quite good. I don't know ... what do you think?

Komura is a Japanese company that also made LTMl enses and adapters and other optical items[see cameraquest write-up]. The LTM lenses can be very costly these days.

I drove to Joe Patty's Seafood in dowtown Pensacola to take these images. They have fishing boats and pelicans, which can provide a nice scenery for photography. There is a sewage treatment plant across the street from Joe Patty's, which results in the place called "Stinky Place" by my daughters.

Ooo - I like the 'drawing' that lens does. Your #4 - the bird on the post against the peninsula is stand-out! Congrats of a good get. That give-away was (is?) so cool.

Chris: Thanks. Yes, the lens seems to have something going for it. I don't know excatly what it is yet, but I like it. If I am lucky, then this lens is similar to the Angenieux 35mm 2.5.

Happy to see the lens is finally getting some action now.

As said, I have had it up on evilbay at least twice, it never went. It was sitting in the original box with all the accessories doing nothing at my end.

My brother in law picked it up with a whole box of Exakta in Zwolle, The Netherlands two years ago. Think he paid EUR 10.00 for the lot, most of which I sold with his consent, since I did and do not shoot Exakta.

The lens must have held out to get to you in the cosmic scheme of things!

Hang on to it, I have never seen one before this and never since, it must be rare to have a complete set.

My guess on the vignetting: if you would use either the supplied Komura filter or the steel hood, and not both, you will circumvent the vignetting. Seems like a tiny bit of lens hood in the corners!

I will check whether I had the filter on the lens or not. Most likely, the filter was on the lens and so was the lens hood.

I can buy one W-komura 2,5/35 UNI in M42.

Is the lens so contrast like your pics show or you did PP?

As my monitor not very good, I ask you What about the resolution power of the lens?

The contrast seems to be high and the resolution a bit lower. What is your opinion, Raid?
