Erik, this looks absolutely gorgeous!

I am curious, how it compares to the Leica rangefinders in terms of contrast, flare, ease of focussing and eye point of the finder.

People, who comment about starting with Nikon rangefinders often write, to better start right with the latest model, skipping the S2 and older.

How could one not like the S2 - even just for the looks of it ;-)

Dirk, I have been working with Nikon rangefinders for about 20 years. The S2 is the best of them all. Simple, a great rangefinder and ultra smooth operation.
I agree, the black S2 is really good looking. Unfortunately it is very rare.
The finder is life-size, 1:1, so you can compose with both eyes open. There is only one bright-line (5 cm) not paralax-corrected, but there is no need for that as the finder is very close to the lens.
No need to say that the lenses are great.

Erik.

I had to put it down so I could type this: Leica M8. That's as close to RIGHT NOW as I can get.

Taron "Eyemax" rangefinder. It's been in the drawer for 2 years now. I first now have a test roll in it and went for a walk along the shore of Lake Michigan. Selenium meter is still responsive!

It feels like an early Minolta rangefinder with less build quality. Wind on feel is nice as well as the focusing and the Citizen MVL shutter is nearly silent. I'm looking forward to the results from the 45mm Taronar 1.8.

The Bessas are having a brief holiday and I've loaded my Ricoh XR-2s and have the Pentax M 50mm/f 1.4 on it.

For the last two wks I have been using small cameras; an Agfa Paramat, Oly XA3 and µ1. I got a µ105 zoom earlier in he week and I quite like its quietness and today my Pen EE2 arrived so I will be using a combo of those and a Konica 35AA thats yet to arrive. My fybro has been playing up and the OM2 etc are just a bit too heavy at the moment .

M4 with VC 75mm 2.5 and 35mm 2.5.

I'm totally sold on the 35mm 2.5. It replaced my Canon as I prefer the more modern look (the Summar covers my vintage look needs when I feel like that sort of shot). Still trying to decide between the VC 75mm and Canon 100mm 3.5. Not sure if I'm a 100/50/21 shooter or a 75/35 shooter. Really hard to ditch 50mm as thats the only 'fast' (~1.4) lens I have but 75/35 may cover most of my shooting.
