W/NW 28mm non street

W/NW 28mm non street

I want to push myself and try something new. My favourite lens by far right now is 50mm. I find it hard to fill the frame with wider lenses. But I think I might try to force myself to shoot with a 28 for a while

So post your images shot with a 28mm equivilent lens and see if you can inspire me!(28mm shot on 4/3 won't give me much for inspiration sorry).

I'll start it off with one of the few images I've shot and like with a 28mm.

P.s. any composition tips for shooting WA would be cool to, but I think its just a matter of getting used to the different perspective.

Oh, P.P.s. i'm not a big street shooter, but I should almost everything else, so I'd prefer things that aren't typical street shots, but if you have a burning desire to share one than feel free!

Robert Capa must must have been thinking about 28mm lenses when he made his famous quote "if you photos are not good enough, you are not close enough". I almost always shoot with a 28mm lens (35mm film) because I want to be right up close with my subject.

Thanks. I really enjoy photographing the people there. At various times I have used: CV 28mm f.35, 28mm 2.8 Hexanon & Zeiss 28mm f2.8. I could be very happy with any one of them.

Helen: I find the benefits of the 28mm photographing people is not the perspective but the ability to be right there with them. You have to be one of those who communicates continually with subjects. Not verbally, as my Spanish language skills are embarrassingly bad, but by body language. I need to connect with the subject and convey that I am safe, confident, and most importantly, am pleased with their reaction. That is when the photos I want begin to evolve. Being right there next to them is the only way I can do that. I just cannot connect standing 8-10' away.

"Close" is relative, of course, to the size of your subject.

Great shots so far everyone!
Just out of curiosity does anyone naturally "see" in the 28mm framing when they're shooting? Kind of an akward question I know, but when I'm shooting right now and I see something I want to shoot, I take a few steps to explore different angles of it, and than when I put the camera to my eye the subject is essentially framed the way I want it without thinking or taking steps forward or backwards (most of the time, I'm obviously not perfect in this regard). This is probably easier because 50mm is pretty close to our natural FOV, but does anyone do this with 28's or is it a longer slower composition process?

I "see" 28mm framing in my mind. I don't think it is a function of the eye but of the brain.

M9 / 28/2.0 ASPH

I'm one of those for whom 28 is a pretty natural FOV. Been shooting with the 35 more lately, but usually have a 28 in the bag.

I look at it like this, Chris: 50mm is the FOV for one eye (other eye closed). 28mm is for both eyes. Works for me.

With the camera set on A and exp comp of -2/3 to -1, I first pan the entire frame to see what kind of stop range is involved, then usually choose an f-stop in the middle, higher or lower depending on what I want to emphasize. Then I play with Kelvin settings, curves, RGB levels, color, saturation and hue in post to create the atmosphere that I remember from the moment. Pretty standard stuff, I suppose.

I can't wait to get back the rolls of RVP 50 I shot at the same time.
