I see

After reading Dan's post I thought maybe you took them with you there for a visit or sent the batch to Maine to be sent.

I think a "krotenblender" is a high quality German sauerkraut and margarita mixer. Usually found in high-end restaurants

nice interpretation. I had the feeling, that this name could cause interesting ideas for english-speakers.

(the blender is of course handcrafted and creates its own red dots (plenty) when not properly closed)

Happy Birthday, Stephen!
I have finally started sending out my cards, got a good portion of them addressed today and they will be leaving on the mail boat this morning. No mail service here in the uS tomorrow so I will have time to get the rest ready to go out on Thursday.

Thanks again for every one's enthusiasm and work on this project!
Lovely photos, all.

Isn't a "Kroete" something like a frog?
Kroeten would be animals .. frogs?
What would a blender for frogs mean?

It would mean a very odd milkshake... Typically McDonald's sells them around St Patrick's Day...

That's where the red dots come from...

"Kröte" is a kind of frog (paddock or toad, to be precise). Blender means something totally different in german, it's not the machine, the blender, but in this case (different meanings are possible) means someone, who dazzles or blinds someone else (e.g. with a flashlight). The verb is "blenden" in german.

So the name means someone who dazzles a toad, and in my case comes from my avatar, which I did not upload here, yet, but was my first "good" photo ever and which I used at a german photo-forum.

Maybe, I should upload that avatar-image...

Long story short: A machine which creates frog-shakes is okay with me...

you all remember that little flash-based computer game where you have a frog floating in some juice in the blender...and you can set different blend speeds...from a slow bubble bath to a fast bloody splash right?

That is one odd looking frog. Looks like something you'd see in a National Geographic magazine. The legs look like lobster legs.

Remind me to take a photo of an ar with cree "blenden" for the next round of postcards

It was actually just about 4cm in size, and the image was taken in macro-mode with a cheap compact-camera at night, when thousands of them were on their way to their pools. I used a flash and the toad was stunned afterwards, so I became the krötenblender...

i got today four cool cards! thanks Randy for the m&ms, yellow is my favorite
and stamp is cool
and it arrived in very good shape...

thanks Tom for the treasure island card, it's really cool, tricky to decide whether it's a very wide perspective or very large legs.

thanks also Greg for the view on Luna Park and the slightly melancholic description.

And thanks John for the great shot of Patrick, the nice story, and the absolutely cool Miles Davis Forever stamp Is this self made or just commercially available, regular stamp?

Wonderful Monday

I received 13 cards on Monday - from UK, Netherlands, Italy and the US - but none on Tuesday. More color in this lot than any other. I am quite impressed by the quality of the images and the quality of the reproductions. Are most of the cards from Moo?

Displaying your RFF Postcard collection

I've finally found a solution for storing & displaying my RFF Postcard Project collections. Cheap and effective! I found 12" by 12" faux leather-covered scrapbooks at my local crafts store. They come with 10 plastic sleeves. Each holds 6 postcards. I stick the cards in place with a small piece of transparent tape. Now I can see front and back of the cards, and they're protected.

You can purchase additional packs of 10 sleeves, which holds a total of 60 cards, about right for each year of the RFF Postcard Project. I've now got last year's and this in the scrapbook. I purchased another 10 sleeves for next years Project (Rob.. hint! )

The scrapbook with 10 sleeves was about $15, and an additional 10 sleeves was $10.

* Floyd - Billingshurst, UK - Stunning sunrise
* Palo Markovic - Bratislava - Wonderful street shot
* Jamie Pillers - Oakland - Creative view of Alcatraz
* Randy Tolley - Sacramento - Great shot of the M&M Store (never knew there was such a place!)
* Ming-Yue Lee - San Diego - Truly unusual shot (took me a moment to wrap my head around this one!)
* Raid Amin - Florida(?) - Excellent capture of an historic moment

* ?? (can't make out? Remind me?) - Deptford, London - Exceptional shot of dance studio, arrived a bit damaged but still stunning
* Marcr1230 - Chicago - Charming street shot
* Helen - Australia - Captivating beach scene
* Jason Rutter - Grand Rapids - "reclaimed instant negative" - I love this, would like to know the story behind it
* Don Parsons - Saint Louis (lived there for a few years!) - Wonderful shot from Ethiopia
* Rich Beaubien - Massachusetts - Really excellent capture at a carnival funhouse
* Frank Reissmann - Germany - Beautiful Irish waterscape
* Jim Crutcher - Arizona - Fabulous shot of Prickly Pear

That puts me at only 19, behind some of you.

I am so sorry, but the cards I sent to

John Weber
John Cordingley
Jim Woodard
Shakif Hussain

were returned. I have no explanation, other than some knucklehead at the PO mistaking the return address sticker for the destination address. Not to make excuses, but believe me, you would need to have your head up your ass to misunderstand. I will mail these out again.

I have to say that all the postcards I received are truly exceptional, and I am very proud to be part of this project.

Randy
Here's an update - sorry for not acknowledging you fine folks, I came back from Europe sick and have gotten worse. ;-(

* Chris Brainwood, great street shot . Love the compisition and the moment.
* Cor, nice nature capture (elephant) - wonderful textures in this guy's sagging hide
* Greg Gunn, superb action shot (cyclist) - well done!
* Valentino., beautiful shot of Italian alps - reminds me of central Pennsylvania in the fall .
* Mike Thomas - excellent urban landscape, love the use of DOF here.
* Tom Farrell - another nice urban shot (park ) . Nice framing and composition.
* Stephan (Germany), another superb urban scene, no end of textures and colors. And bikes!
* Ken Doody, striking and beautifully executed portrait.

That puts me at only 28, something is wrong - we were away for a while , I need to check if some got misplaced.

Also, I resent to

John Weber
John Cordingley
Jim Woodard
Shakif Hussain

Thanks to those who explained my negligence in including a return address sticker on my cards.
