Keep it close to home. I like Gerry Smith. Funny thing, when I called Germany for help and they found out I was in Toronto, they instantly said take it to Gerry. Good enough for me...

My repair person list is a short one: Don Goldberg.
He's not a repair person per se,but...has anybody heard from Morgan Sparks of Camerleather lately? My emails remain unanswered as he has had my Nikon S for several months now and no communication about its status. Thanks for any information you can share.

They did an excellent and speedy repair on a light leak I had on my TTL M6. If you are a pro user in need of a fast turn around they will pull out the stops to try and accomodate.
Unfortunately they're also a Leica dealer and it's a dangerous place to be if you have a credit card in your wallet!

Anybody heard of of Camera Repair, 100 Amor Ave
Carlstadt, NJ 07072. Besides repair, they also sell used equipment and include a CLA in the price.

It's the same repair shop as Essex Camera Services -- someone associated with the shop sells used equipment too.

Yuri's repairperson (of Fedka) is very good. I wrote to Yuri about going on vacation and needing the lens CLA/Collimation done quickly. He quoted me 3-4 days repair time. The lens was actually worked on and completed the day after receiving it, and sent back the day after. He was also awesome and kept me informed of every step in repair, and even personally tested the lens out after repair!

Based on what I'm reading here Essex Camera in NJ seems to be the logical choice. I recently emailed them about a Canonet QL17 with a stuck shutter and they quoted me 90.00 for cleaning and repair of shutter. Very fair price I think.
I'm emailing Sherry now about a Leica CL with busted meter...

Use email, it is more polite, precise, and easier to understand. It's the old farts that don't use email that bug me. What am I supposed to do, fax them?
Youxin is the champ, he is fast, reasonable, and good. Perhaps an exotic problem is out of his realm but I trust him to tell me so.
Maddox is also good. DAG just takes forever and is very expensive, so I would only turn to him for exotica, like replacing SL prisms and the like.

I'd add John at Focal Point http://www.focalpointlens.com/fp_intro.html
John carried out a CLA on my 50 DR and did an excellent job. He also recoats lenses amongst other things. Good turn-round and decent rates
Question is wye7@yahoo.com Youxin Ye's e-mail?

For the Leica Repair in Europe, I would recommend Ottmar Michaely in Germany ( Ehringshausen). Any leica repair guy that Leica AG trusts to dismantle an Ur Leica or rebuild the Leica Museum Cameras better be good.
eMail: Ottmar-Michaely@t-online.de
Apart from that, he is avery nice guy to deal with too,

Switzerland: Claudio Fabio in Oberrieden near Zurich. He managed to clean the prism in my M3 when I was afraid it was separation or desilvering.

Kindermann of Ontario.
Hats off to Gerry Smith at Kindermann.
Gerry has done a CLA and service on my M3 recently. Great communication and a camera that now feels and operates like it probably did when new.
A minor (but invisible) repair to the vulcanite below the lens housing has the camera looking at it's best again.
I am very happy with the results.
The whole transaction, from me sending the camera to Kindermann and Canada Post returning it to my home address, took approximately 4 weeks. It wasn't cheap, but then again I didn't want a cheap job done.
The camera should now be good for a few more years, with the proviso that if there should be any problems during the next year with the work they performed, they will deal with it.

Second this as he's just given my M3 its first service in 50 years and everything is beautifully smooth and the viewfinder is spectacular.

Great thread! Anyone have any recommendations for a CLA of a Canon 50mm 1.2? Preferably close to Scandinavia
