Is it worth paying $39.95 for a years subscription??

Smugmug is the best of the services I have tried. I think it is worth it. But only if you plan to sell your photos. Otherwise, what's wrong with Flickr?

Oh, ok. I've never done that. What happens when you choose a higher res on Flickr and link to that?

Seems to work fine for me on flickr with small/large/whatever:>

and larger:>

I have both Flickr and SmugMug accounts, and much prefer SmugMug. You have greater choice of display formats and customization, no bandwidth limits, easier ability to display photos large size, and more secure backups. (Though admittedly, with a $24.95/year Flickr "Pro" account you do get more.) Flickr is also better if you want a huge number of people to be able to access your photos and want to be a member of special interest groups. So it all depends on what you want from a photo hosting site, really...

I started with Smugmug when Flickr didn't exist yet. Kept the Smugmug account for much the same reasons as Carl said. Sometimes the high visibility on Flickr is a pain. Also, I find it easier to manipulate galleries, etc.

Best,

Roland.

I have neither, so I am still in a position to choose here.
The lens test results are displayed very nicely in smugmug.
