Illinois Attempt to get a Chicago club off the ground, 2007 edition

Well... I'll get up early tomorrow and if the sky looks ugly, I'll have to put it off. I have to drive about 40 minutes to the train station and then ride for an hour and a half more.

Besides, I'd like to see some bags at Central Camera and pick up a few archival pages for negatives and slides.

Let's wait and see. If anything, I'll try to make it to Borders at 11:30 or thereabouts to see if I can recognize Liam without horns! :) Of course, I'll be the guy with a camera on the table.

Edit: Jeremy, don't despair; we will get acquainted tomorrow. That's just half of the fun! In other words, don't think we have to go out and shoot and run about trying to shelter our gear. Let's get together, talk about gear and stuff and enjoy some focusing fluid, whether alcoholic or not.

Sorry, gang - I'm not going to be making it today. I was out on a call until 3AM and just got up.

Next time!

I couldn't make it either: very thick fog around town today.

Jeremy and I spoke this morning. We should keep our eyes peeled and think about lunch some time, with ample warning so that everyone can plan ahead.

I wonder if Liam is at the Borders by the Gene Siskel Center...

Yeah - that's the one I went to after Central camera. (Somehow managed not to buy anything - I'm still perplexed.) I had to go up to the repair section because I couldn't for the life of me remember if I still had anything sitting up there waiting for pickup. Carly was kind enough to laugh politely and tell me no, I had all my cameras back at this point.

Went to borders and ate a sandwich (camera on the table, just in case). No horns, but a black fedora in case of rain - which never came.

Then I headed out and shot a few rolls over by Millenium park, and then north up the Mag mile, over to the galleries, and back down to the loop to grab coffee and head home.

The fog was a nice bonus - hopefully gave some atmosphere to a few shots.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet up with anyone. Jeremy called me when he got to Central in the afternoon, but I was a good mile away and he had a car to deal with.

Next time gents. Next time. :)

Hope your days went well.

Yeah, it figures, most of us poop out on account of a bad weather forecast, and it was perfect street picture-taking weather. Warm, overcast, and a bit of a breeze.

I was in town for about an hour, from probably 12 to 1 or so. Picked up my XA at Central, bought some darkroom stuff, including the multicontrast filters I need.

Nevertheless, I shot a roll of Tri-X (my first ever) of my family with my 35RC today. (sister is visiting from LA) I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I hope to see you guys next time.

I know I'm a little late joining this discussion, but I'd like to get in on a Chicago meet-up if it happens. As far as finding stuff to photograph, I had a couple of buddies (in the early 90's)that would go downtown, split up for a pre-determined length of time, and come back with a complete roll shot. Then, I think, they would go have lunch and a beer. They would get together next time and look at each others shots. They did this for at least a few months. Seems like a good excuse for lunch and a beer!
Anyway, at the risk of being one of those self-inviters that we all hate, I'm in if the invitation still stands.

Sure you're invited. We should probably start a new thread next time, as this one is getting old and we are two meetings later from the original post.

Time for a Meet!

Time for a Meet!

Chicago area RFFers,

The summer is almost over and the weather is beginning to cool off. Time to start thinking about a meeting to burn some film, see some sights and share some cameraderie. I'm sure one of us needs to check out Central Camera...:)

Anyone's schedule allow for this or next weekend? Saturdays are better for me and Downtown is OK...I'll have to drive in since the trains don't run on weekends on my line.

Checking for interest...and life.:D

Cheers,
AJ

It's Alive!

This weekend is my birthday, so I assume that my girl will have plans for me already set.

But the weekend of the 29th should be just dandy. I love downtown but would be willing to consider other interesting options.

I would like to join in the fun sometime; the near future for me is, unfortunately, the DIY bathroom remodel that never ends....

--BUMP--

It's near the end of October and getting cold...This Saturday is out for me, but next one may be good. Any takers? I've got some film to burn, before the gray winter sets in.

I'll be around - shooting on 11/3 or so sounds bueno. All else fails, there's stuff going on at the Art Institute that will probably drag me downtown regardless.

And I've been missing all this fun?
I'll be downtown tomorrow, shooting a little south of the loop with an old 11x14 Deardorff Studio between noon and 5, if anyone wants to see the beast they're welcome to.
Or if anyone wants to have a smoke and make some photos before/after, I'll be around.
Liam, you should've told me all this was going on.

Yes I should have...

but now I'm racking my brain to remember who I know with an 11x14 deardorff..

Rob, is that you?

By tomorrow - do you mean Saturday, or since you posted at 1 am, Friday.

At the time, I meant Friday, but that was because I was tipsy and thought 11/3 was 'tomorrow'.
Though, I will be downtown on Saturday as well, then from 9-noon shooting with the Deardorff, and then out and about the rest of it.

I'm using this post mostly to alert the Chicago folks of my attempt to have a Chicago RFF Group added to the list of clubs in the Photo Clubs section of the index.
I sent an email to the 'contact us' email that came up a week or so ago, but as yet there is no response. Probably, there has been something a little bigger than my request going on for the past week!!;)
But, if anyone knows how a forum is added and determines that I really am as ignorant in most things computer as I suspect having attempted this addition in the wrong fashion, please reach out and verbally slap me in the head and point me in the right direction.:)

Sorry about the 'smily' faces. I just wanted to see how they worked!

Good call Matt. At the very least a Midwest Regional group or something (like the way they have North East/New England and North East/New York set up)

Much easier if there is a consistent location to look for happenings.
