RFF EuroMeet, Florence, April 10-11 2010

Hello,

By popular vote the weekend of the 10th and 11th of April has been chosen.

The idea behind the meet is to spend the days exploring, being guided by those who live in or know the area to see the places that are not in the guidebooks.

Florence is the main centre, but Pisa and Lucca are both very close, so we can pop across to those as well (Lucca is especially gorgeous).

Anyone is welcome, whether you're a member of RFF or not, whether you are a ninja photographer or like me, take many photos of your feet and the lens cap...

If you click here, you can access the Google Map which anyone can edit. Add whatever comes to mind that might be useful (cool little village, somewhere to see, hotel, eatery, bar....).

Finally, although the 10th and 11th are the days, many people will be there before and after the weekend (I think I will fly in on the Thursday and out on the Monday/Tuesday, for example).

Ok, I booked flights. GF is coming too. Flying to Pisa on Thursday midday and returning on Sunday night.
We 'd be interested to spend first night in Pisa, see Lucca on Friday then Florence for the weekend. What do you think ?

right on, looking for flights right now... it's my g/f's birthday today, do you think a little trip to Italy would be an appropriate present?

and I still owe a dinner to two of the locals! saving up starts now.

I think this sounds like a great date window...and the additional locations would make for excellent new subject opportunities. Now If I can just block out the time.

How wonderful to live in Europe. Here's one from my last trip to Florence. I am a little further south and I won't be there next year I'm afraid.

nice! I didn't know about RFF euromeetings! I may be coming on Saturday or Sunday, it's just a 2 hours train ride from Rome.

Count me IN!!
I live in Florence since one year and a half, so I can guide you downtown (at least for what concerns food and drinks)

I'll not be in town the 10th but I'll be available all the previous week, the 11th, and the week after, so be prepared to visit many good restaurants if you'll stay more than those exact two days..

Send me a PM if you want my e-mail address or you need any local help..

See you soon!
Rob.

Well done Kully,
great to see many friends confirming their presence at the meeting. I hope others will join in!
Of course I'm in and Gaia too. Also couple of friend from my local fotoclub will join the meeting.
Roberto, your help will be highly appreciated, I'll send you a pm.
Let's see how people set their flights and hotel reservations and then we can plan the whole WE.
I'm going to update my signature,
ciao

I'm arriving on the Thursday and leaving on the Monday, staying at Hotel Il Bargellino, which is 45 euro a night for a single. Now to find the cheap flights, if possible...

Hi guys! I'll be there!
I still don't know if it will be for the entire weekend or only one day.
I live in Savona, near Genova (it's 3.30 hours drive from Firenze), I can offer a double bed, if someone likes to stay more and visit other places, please MP me

Ciao
Franco

Hello Franco, that's a very kind offer. It will be good to see you in Florence.

I'll be flying in on the Wednesday evening and out on the Monday. I'll be booking tomorrow when my wife decides whether she wants to come or not.

Robert,

From what I understand the "official" meeting will be in Florence only. However it seems a few of us (me, Kully, Simon, Yanidel) are heading for Pisa and Lucca as well, probably on Thursday and Friday respectively.

I just booked my flights, arriving in Bologna 11:15 Thursday and leaving again on Sunday at 17:45. Kully, Simon and Yanidel with their respective girlfriends are all flying in and out of Pisa and I'm catching a train there (flying to Pisa was almost twice the price of my current ticket).

Looking forward to seeing you all again!

I'll be down in Florence for the week end, not sure if my wife can get a couple of days free (it's difficult!) and stay longer. ciao

I'd definitely be interested in any side trips -- when/where were you thinking of meeting on the Thursday?

Not a clue yet, Lawrence! I just summarized what people have written earlier in this thread. At least Yannick and Simon with their girlfriends (Kully too if I remember correctly) are arriving in Pisa on Thursday morning/midday so I figure we'll meet somewhere around there. By the Leaning Tower maybe?

I guess it will become more organized as we get closer to the date and know the definitive list of people coming to the meet.
Indeed, my girlfriend and I will arrive in Pisa on thursday in the afternoon (14h). I guess the best is to set a meeting hour that day depending on when most arrive. Others can catch up, a mobile phone list will be shared and Pisa is not big.
Lucca could happen Friday by leaving early and returning in the afternoon. Apparently, a bus joins Pisa and Lucca and go through very charming towns, it is a 30 minutes ride so it can definitely be done in one day. It can also be done by train or rental car.
Then on late afternoon, we could catch a train to Florence.

Great news Emil - I was wondering whether you might be able to make it at all.

I have also booked my flights (Wednesday night thru Monday). My wife won't be coming - however a friend of mine will.

I've booked a Panda for the stay so getting about for us plus 2-3 more will be cool.

Thursday for Pisa and surrounds and Friday for Lucca and surrounds sounds good so far. However, we should wait for advise from the Tuscans - they may be able to suggest a better itinerary (Pisa+Lucca one day and some small villages another day).

yes, the two of us will spend the first night in Pisa (or Lucca maybe? depending on where we can find a cheap hostel), heading to Florence on Friday.

and since nobody has started yet, let me ask a hypothetical question: anyone having a 35mm summicron for sale?

I might have one, I haven't decided what to do my with my lenses after I sold my M6 a while ago. I have a Summicron 35/2 v4 and an Elmar 50/2.8 v1 that I'll probably sell. Why don't you give me an offer, Simon?
