I love that you, ko.Fe & Chris are documenting your images on here. I find RFF more photo-blog friendly now a days than a site like Blogger or Wordpress.

Just wondering if I were to come to New York & stand out in the midst of the city wearing only my BVD's & perhaps a camera around my neck what kind of artist statement I would be making? Or would I be arrested?

Hi, Helen,

Love your high-contrast, inspiring work! Now, what I look forward is your printing it in a huge "portfolio book" like this one: see the 2-minute flip through of Kosuke Okahara's book. Look's like B&W prints well on this mulberry paper.

I had a fun interaction with the second guy to the left while he was performing in Union Square. "Look, everybody! It's a Leica! It's a Leica!" he exclaimed exuberantly. I turned around to see the Leica he was referring to. With a sigh he then says "Oh. It has gone away." I turn back to him hoping that he'll move on to his schtick without minding me. "Look, everybody! It's a Leica! It's a Leica!"

Loving this thread, a best compilation of many of your more memorable images all kind of 'scrapbooked' together here as one. Your work really inspires as always.

Helen - the huge Kosuke Ohara book — he's made a small version as well — i estimated, based on the mulberry paper supplier's website, cost about $1,000 in materials. Ohara made three copies back in April; as of September he had sold one, for $4,500.

I won't be back in the States until April.

I am proud un-smart phone user
but the obsession of people staring at their little screens makes for a lot of good photo ops, they are so focussed, you can take a couple of shots, focus, reframe, take all the time you need and they don't notice.

I hope you don't mind me posting a few shots here.

I have hundreds (thousands?) of shots of the NYC area, taken between when I first got seriously interested in photography until the time I moved away. Most are B&W.

Most of mine are more of an "Urban Scene" genre and not true "Street" per se. Yeah, I was (and still am) a bit shy of blatantly and obviously photographing people.

Here's a shot of Coney I took when I was in my teens. I'm gonna place the year as 1970. I remember it was on a Sunday morning. This one shows all three of the legacy coasters. Cyclone (barely) on the far left, then Tornado, and then Thunderbolt (my fave).

That Porsche 356 at the top, lots of others, and the Central Park shots: my heart rate is up around a 100. Your collection will be a killer. I love your blacks. Back to film only I reckon. Wow.
