my order is black paint with names of my 3 kids imprinted.
that's gonna be super cool.
chrome: yes it's nice but i already have chrome 35/2.8; in addition my 35/2 v4 is black chrome. black paint for me is an obvious choice.

In the process, his technical team is also continuously accumulating manufacturing experience.

As more and more people are sending messages to me expressing their interest in buying the replica 8-element after we stopped receiving orders, I have asked the maker about his plan on future batches. Like I said before, the flint lead glass becomes very hard to find in China nowadays as the new Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China been released in 2015. The law restricted the manufacturing of the lead glass. But some facilities are still manufacturing flint lead glass for particular purposes. The maker is able to source this glass from those facilities, but the cost will be higher. So I got confirmation that the future batches will have a higher price due to this reason.

In fact, regardless of the increase in manufacturing costs, the maker initially planned to sell the lens at the lowest possible price to thank the first group of the customers who are willing to support them. And then, return to the regular price after the first batch is sold.

Mr. Zhou used all his flint lead glass from old stock to produce about 500 copies of lens core for the first batch replica lens. The later batch may use eco-friendly glass instead. And if the maker is able to source the flint lead glass from the special facility, he can produce more lenses with special glass in limit number. The cost will be higher for sure.

Thats why I lettered 8E FLINT on the front ring..as I suspected the use of Flint glass would be a 1 off..
This will differentiate the 1st batch..from any other..

I have many Leica lenses in chrome and many non-Leica lenses in black. I do not yet own any lens in brass finish. The time has come to change this fact! I count on seeing few lenses made in brass finish, and even fewer lenses that were made with Flint glass.

Traditionalists will favor the chrome or black finish. I view the replica lens as being special. It deserves the brass finish.

But brass will oxidize if there’s nothing to seal it against the air. In time, you’ll have a greenish and gray, mildly corroded barrel. Not so pretty or easy to clean.

I recall Kevin saying that the brass finish lens is coated to prevent oxidization. I hope that I understood him correctly.

Yes, at least 11 have been delivered to the domestic market. There's a photo somewhere in this thread.

Raid, I filled out the order form for black paint, as I thought the brass lens, while being beautiful, might be a bit too flashy and make it hard to be discrete when out and about taking pictures of people I do not know. But, I am still leaning toward the brass lens finish. Hopefully, when the final order is placed there will still be a chance to change my mind; I might very well join you with a brass lens.

My lens will be engraved "TRAVELLER" which I chose as a reminder to myself to get out and take pictures of new places.

Riad you are right. As the maker pays attention to many details, the brass finish lens will also be given a special coating to prevent it from oxidization as much as possible. Their technician team is still working on this.

on behalf of my friend - Paze Ng:
Using Summicron 35/2 replica for the first time, I choose Rollei RPX400 for its sound resolution, there is no need to raise sharpness of samples.
Moreover, a better sense of pop effect than modern lens. The replica showcases incredible 3D picture quality, while its small aperture performs so well even in back-light condition.
I find its practicality is close to modern ones. However, due to the replicaís modern bias of contrast, its performance of high-key and low-key lighting in high-contrast context is unsatisfactory.
In the cases of high-contrast conditions, what I suggest to do as post-production work is to dim the brightness, with the aim to soften the high-key area (around LR-50).
There are quite a few pictures need further adjustment, while the rest can be processed directly that are valuable as reference.
To be continued (letís talk about style in the coming sectionÖ)

Agreed. Chrome is best (assuming it's real chrome & not a silver paint).

I have lived with and tested two prototypes of the lens, and am waiting, just like all of us here, very expectantly and eagerly for the commercial version.

Why get something unique and make it look ordinary? Really looking forward to getting that bit of bling mounted on the front of my camera (and taking photos with it of course)!
