No offence...... but (some of) these photos remind me very much of the photos often posted on the MF lens forum ( http://forum.mflenses.com/manual-focus-lenses-f3.html ) where people frequently take shots out of their rear window of a garbage can in the ally at the back of their house (and similar shots) and then claim bragging rights about how sharp and wonderful their lenses images are.

These make for a lot of sharp, perfectly well executed and very ugly photos. I have taken many of these type of images myself :^)

(I have a sneaking admiration for that site none the less).

Hi,

Can I add those pictures, usually frames -2 and -1 and 0 that show the carpet and a foot or the ceiling and an out of focus ear?

Regards, David

thank's Lynn! I really like the mood of your "baseball field" ( post 69 )
by now, after a few years active here, Eggleston already rings a bell. Still I hardly know which famous photographer stands for what, but because of info gathered and received from photographers here, in this forum, I recognize more names, still less what they stand for. Alas, the only photo exhibition that I ever have seen was one of Eggleston, in Vienna, a year or two ago. At the time I took that pic the only photographer I could name was Henry Cartier Bresson

what's regarded as "nothing special", I think, partly also will depend on culture, on what one is used to. I guess that in Japan this may be "nothing special", but also for someone who hasn't been there?:

That was a few years back in Omaha. It's closed now.

It was intended to appeal to the uber-patriot, with the premise being that people would be willing to pay a few cents more per gallon for fuel that was supposedly refined from oil that came from countries that did not sponsor or support terrorists.

They did not sell very much so they quickly adjusted to the "suggested list price" of all of the other stations in the vicinity.

Someone associated with the station became somewhat of a troll for a while on the local Gas Buddy site, posting as "Minuteman" and such.

Well, the original thread title was experimental, for lack of a better one. I think the photos themselves define what the thread is about, more so than the original title. A better one might be, "Ordinary Photos" or "everyday." Shore's original "Surfaces" might still be the best. Or since we are an international forum, maybe "International Surfaces" or "World Surfaces" is right.

Beyond the name of it, I envision a quality of, "You see, I have been to a number of places, and I took some of these pictures just because I felt like it, not claiming they are anything great. So it is what it is."

Rob, the original title is great and the thread is great and I and everyone else is really enjoying it. You've stretched us.

Thanks.

I like to take pictures of Rexall Drug stores. This one's in Charlevoix, Michigan. The lady between the poles is my wife, Suzanne.

Here's a shot of the sole singular remaining Rexall store in our area.

Back in the 60s and the 70s you could not walk a few blocks in any direction without running into at least one Rexall. Now they are close to extinct in the wild. Around here I would say that 90% of the stand-alone drug stores are either Walgreens or CVS.

This place is just a hole in the wall, or rather in a commercial vernacular corner. It's a few blocks from the main entrance to the Zoo, so I know it gets lots of drive-by traffic.

Great thread. So many frames here with some little tremble or warble that makes nothing in particular something special. Thanks all.

Yes, agree!

Also gives me an excuse to post some of the odds and ends and out-takes that I have quite a few of.
