Aluminum loves WD40 and WD40 loves aluminum. Spray, rub to even out, let set a day or two and then wash. Learned this restoring a 20 year old Alaskan camper.

I had looked at the Manfrotto 410 for years, but it is expensive and has a bad reputation for becoming loose and wobbly after a few yrs of use.

I bought the Benro geared head that came out last year, and I have been very happy with it. It is made of magnesium, so it is very light and strong and it has a built in Arca-Swiss quick release mechanism.

The Manfrotto 405 is a heavy-duty head that is overkill for me. I shoot Micro Four Thirds. The Benro is perfect for that, and works fine with large DSLRs, too. A heavy head like the 405 would be for shooting big medium format film cameras like the Mamiya RZ76, large format cameras, and DSLRs with heavy telephoto lenses.
