New production cameras:

1. M type 240

2. Canon EOS 5DmkIII. I don't own one, but I'd like to if I could bring myself to afford it. The closest I have is the 5D original:

3. Canon EOS 7DMkII. I'll buy one, when they become available, to replace my EOS 50D:

4. Leica MP. I'd like to have one, but I don't and can't really justify it. But I'd still like to have one...

5. The Leica S. I can dream, can't I?

Classic Cameras:

1. Hexar RF. I own two of them so I must like them...

2. Leica M3.

3. Olympus OM4-T. I don't have much taken with mine that I've posted online but it was my long-standing stalwart for many years. A photo of my camera is on Wikepedia:

4. Rolleicord Vb. I haven't used this as much as I should, but plan to change that...

5. Olympus XA2. Small and convenient...

...Mike

I have no interest in any new in production.

Original Smena is like UFO thing,
IIf incredible quality and simple,
FED-2 it is my family thing,
M4-2 nice and made in Canada.
nothing for #5 yet.

New

My number one favorite new production camera has to be the Leica Monochrom (photo above.) I know, it probably isn't brand new anymore but it is to me.

After that comes my new M-A. So new I don't even have it yet.

Since it is still in production I guess that the M9 also fits.

Classic

Tied for number one on my personal list right now is the Leica Null. Mine is a limited edition reproduction so perhaps it belongs above, but it is no longer produced. I have to say, if the originals were this fun to use it is no wonder that Leica became so big.

The Zeiss Ikon would have gone to the top until just a few months ago when it was discontinued. I guess it is now a classic, but such a wonderful classic it is. I am sure I'll catch heck for this but I think this is what the M should have become.

Third on the list of favorite classics is my Zeiss Ikoflex Favorit. Though many here favor the Rolleiflex I have to say I am very happy with the Favorit's image quality.

Fourth on my list of favorite classics are the Barnack gems. Any one of them will do, they all have that something special that makes working with them a treat, even today.

Finally comes my Fuji GA645 Professional. It is truly the ultimate point and shoot.

I can't pick 5 current production cameras, as I haven't used many.

My fave new model is definitely the Leica M-Monochrom.
The Holga 120N is another classic.
The Arca-Swiss F-Line C deserves esteemed mention.

Of older production cameras, I have to call out these as having been instrumental in achieving my better work:

Hasselblad 500 C/M
Leica M6 TTL
Nikon FM2n
Olympus Stylus

I haven't used that many out-of-production models either. It appears that I tend to be a serial monogamist when it comes to cameras.

Current:

1. Monochrom. Without a doubt the finest images I've ever seen come from a camera. Yes, I know it's not the camera.
2. OMD E-M1 - amazing camera, amazing Olympus and Panasonic glass. The 25mm Summilux is a real treat to use.
3. M9 - still has the chops
4. Nikon D700 - my first full frame digital, along with a 50mm 1.2 AIS.

Older:
1. M7 - probably the best M for fast street shooting.
2. M4/MP - M4 because it's the most elegant. Just super slick, has all the right modifications from the M3/M2 to make it much faster to use. (MP to me feels closer to my M4 than an M3)
3. M3 - my first M camera
4. Rolleiflex 3.5F - pry this sucker out of my cold dead hands.
5. Nikon F6 - Pretty sure I never had a bad exposure using Matrix. The best meter I've ever used.

Ten... More than I use and really love... But honestly there are 5 cameras I have liked the most in my life, and they're all good for different things, so I guess I'll keep using them... I like my Hasselblad and my Arca Swiss a lot, but small cameras are the best ones:
New: Bessa R4M, Bessa R3A, Bessa T.
Classic: Konica Hexar AF, Nikon FE2.
Cheers,
Juan

I'm far behind most of you guys, but I'll talk about what I know.

New:
- The Fuji X100S: on paper, at least, pretty nearly perfect camera, with a superlative lens.
- Olympus OM-D E-M5: my workhorse with the Zuiko 17mm or Summicron 25. It never disappoints.
- Lomo LC-Wide: crazy wide and wicked fun
- I imagine I'd really like the Sony RX1.

Classic:
- Konica Auto S3: as good as it gets for a fast 35 on a budget
- Olympus XA: tiny and delightful
- Konica Hexar AF: what dreams are made of
- Nikon L35AF: the poor man's Hexar, if there is one. Fiddly flash, but otherwise a better shooter than most any other 35mm compact
- I imagine I'd really love a Fuji GA645i and an Olympus OM-2n

I'm still shooting classic film cameras and have no experience with current production models. I have watched with some interest the following:

1. Fuji APS-C models: X100S/T, XPro-1, XE-2, or XT-1.
2. Nikon DX: D7100 or D5300
3. Nikon FX: D810 or D750
4. Sigma DSLRs with the Foveon sensor

Favorite Classic Cameras (currently in use):

1. Minolta Autocord CdS-III TLR
2. Mamiya C330f TLR
3. Rolleiflex T TLR
4. Minolta SR-T 102 SLR
5. Pentax Spotmatic II SLR

Honorable Mention: Canonet GIII 17 QL (used mainly for travel)

My 5 new:

1. Leica M _ would love to have one of these.... one day!
2. Olympus OMD E-M10 - My most recent purchase - great little camera - goes everywhere
3. Canon 5d MkIII - I have a MkII - fab quality from a reliable workhorse
4. Hasselblad H5D 200 MS - for when I win the lottery!
5. iPhone - It's always with me and has caught some moments I would otherwise never have captured - the variety of apps available are fun and add another dimension

5 favourite old cameras - lucky to own all of these...

1. Leica M3 - I've had one for 10 years now and it's a joy to use.
2. Hasselblad 503CXi - I always dreamed of owning a Hasselblad - I was eventually able to realise my dream with an old one :-)
3. FUJI GW690 - amazing camera - should use it more!
4. Leica M6 - my 'go-to' film camera - Love it
5. Voigtlander Vitessa N (Barn Doors) - such an intricately designed and innovative camera

The closest I've got to 'new' is a Panasonic LX3, mainly used for documenting work in progress on classic cameras, and ad-hoc family snapshots.

My current 5 favourite classics are:-

My newest camera is a Sony P&S that I have had for at least 7 or 8 years. Therefore I have no favorite new camera.

In older cameras, I like a couple of 9x12s, my Mamiya Super Press 23, my Fujica ST901, my Contax 167, and my XA. Based on how much I actually use them, or wish to use them (I don't get to take photos very much these last few years due to my wife's health). I also still like my Zeiss Ikon 6x9, and my Welta Weltax.

I only own the Fuji X-E1 for current production cams, so I'll put that at #1. The rest are cameras where I am speculatively interested:
1) Fuji X-E1
2) Sony A7S
3) Fuji X100T
4) Leica M-E
5) Nikon Df

Classic Models:
1) Leica M3
2) Pentax Spotmatic F
3) Canon 7
4) Canon AE-1 (shot my sister's wedding with this)
5) Argus C3 (I can't help but like this camera; don't judge!)

I forgot to mention in my original post...

I was not sure where to put my sigma dp Merrill cameras, since I think they are now out of production, but are not old enough to be considered classics... Otherwise I would replace the Panasonic GX7 and Fuji XP1 w/ DP1m plus Ricoh 0.75 wide angle adapter and dp3m..

Current:
1. Canon 5D mkIII - an absolute beast of a camera, and a joy to use, I have nothing negative to say about it.

2. Sony RX100 mk1 (I haven't tried the mk2 and the mk3 isnt for me) Each time I use this little powerhouse I find myself thinking "this really is something special"

3. ?
4. ?
5. ?

Old (digital)

1. Canon EOS 1D Mk2, while my 2# and current cameras are arguably "better" this camera had a huge part in my improving.

2. Canon EOS 5d, I use the MkI for street shooting when I'm not using film, and it utterly excels, there's a certain something about it's files that is all it's own.

3. Ricoh GRD II, I know it's the red headed stepchild of the GR family, but it's the one I have, and it's a joy to shoot, it's why I want the new GR.

4. Panasonic Lumix LX3, Really ahead of it's time, still a capable camera, was the camera that I got really into street shooting with, AND for other shooting, with the expansion lens, you can go to 18mm! There's nothing that goes that wide in a comparable price range.

5. ?

Old (Film)

1. Canon Eos 3, it's almost exactly the same as the 5ds, a tank that always delivers, and feels great to use.

2. Contax T3, that lens, the size the AF moves while you focus, flash can default to off, it's super quiet, and looks like it's not a "serious" camera but produces very serious results.

3. Contax T2, Even after I got the T3 I was curious about the T2, silly, but I couldn't shift the curiosity. It's 99% as good as the T3, so I'm a huge fan.

4. Pentax ME Super, Aperture Priority, tiny, light, a pleasure to use, to the point I often wonder "why don't I just use this all the time?"

5. Konica FT-1 probably the most complete of the electronic Konicas (I have a soft spot for the FS-1 as well). I might prefer Aperture Priority to the Shutter Priority of the Konicas, but I enjoy the bodies, and those lenses are glorious.

6. Honorable mention Yashica T4, with B/W, ok so it's plastic not metal like the Contaxes, and you have to turn the flash off each time you turn it on, but I love the output.

New:

1. Leica M Typ 240. I don't own one, but had a loaner for 2 weeks and really enjoyed it!
2. Leica M Monochrom. I haven't used one, but it would be at the top of my list of cameras to try.
3. Fuji X-Pro 1. I've handled one, but never had a chance to shoot with one. I like the way Fuji is going with their cameras, and I could see myself with one in the not too distant future.
4. Canon 5D3. I love my 5Dc, so I'm sure the newer version would be the same.
5. Sony A7r. The ability to have a digital camera to use M mount lenses with is looking increasingly appealing, especially for travel.

Classic:

1. Leica M3. My first Leica and overall favourite camera.
2. Canon 5D. My first FF DSLR, I've owned mine for 2 years and it's still my favourite digital camera.
3. Leica M4-P. The Leica I use with a 35, plus I can take a 50 in the bag for a lightweight walk around kit.
4. Olympus OM-1n. My favourite film SLR, compact but has a huge viewfinder, with excellent lenses.
5. Yashica Mat. I have only borrowed one, but I had a great time with it!
