Lens feels a bit loose on M6?

Very excited! After a long while of searching I finally own my first Leica and lens. Actually, with a bit of luck, I found both an M6 Classic and M7 for relatively good prices and decided to pick both up and re-sell whichever I like less.

I'm a little worried about the M6, though. When I mount my 35 summicron to the M6, it feels like there's a bit of play in the mount. It's not huge and it's hard to see if the lens moves (it does but it's almost imperceptible), but I can really feel it when focusing, and it's kind of annoying and worrying. There's kind of a clunk every time I change direction of the focus. When the same lens is mounted on the M7, there's no play at all and it feels solid.

Is this a common problem? Maybe can be addressed by a CLA? Thanks

Which summicron version? I often use my M6 with a V1 Summicron 35mm and get no play/loose feeling at all. Probably a CLA? Also, is there any dust/dirt on the mount that would prevent the proper locking?

As a comment, on my M5 I often had to struggle a bit with my Summicron 50mm in order to get a proper engagement. So probably a mount thing?

Have you confirmed that the screws that attach the mount to the body are tight?

I have a couple of Summicron 35s and three M6s and have never had that problem. Is your M6 a Leitz one or a camera made by the successor firm? The Leitz ones will be marked Leitz; the later ones will say made by Leica Camera. I have had a mounting problem with the Leica Camera one but it's the reverse of what you have - my Zeiss 1.5 Sonnar will not mount on that camera but will mount just fine on the other two.

I would clean both the rear mound of the lens a bayonet mount on the camera
body also carefully tighten all screw's and take a Q-tip and clean the slot that
the locking tab goes into.

v4 Summicron. Leica Camera GMBH.

The screws don't seem loose, but I'll need to get a smaller screwdriver to verify that. I'll chime in once I've done that.

+1 Now that I remember, I had the same problem with a Distagon on my Rolleiflex sl35e. Tightening the screws fixed the issue as far as I remember.

I had the same issue, with certain lenses (i.e. a 35cron v1), on my then-brand new M7.

Must be one of the reasons they made the later digital bodies' mounts so much tighter.
