The Scheherazade effect and selling cameras

Ok, be honest - who has put a new roll of film in a camera and shot a few frames just to forestall selling it "until the roll is done"? I find this works best with 36 exposures.

The conceit is that the storyteller won't be executed as long as the story is left unfinished for the next night.

Also best done with an expensive roll of film, reducing the temptation to just 'finish off' the roll. Mine all seem to have a permanent stay of execution so they can just tell it how it is, fast or slow, expired or discount film.

No fancy "effects" in this house. In my case it is usually just forgetting I put a roll of film in the camera. Old age is a b...

And if that roll is also the first roll you’ve put through the camera, you can’t very well sell a camera without being “film tested” now can you!

I’ll be looking at my cameras and see one I haven’t used in a while and think “maybe I should sell it.” But then I pick it up and my thinking changes to “maybe I should shoot it.”
Time to mix some more D-76.

Don't forget that eventually he came to value her and renounced his intention to do away with her. That could happen with a camera, too: a good reason to take your time finishing the roll!

It works best if you have film loaded in multiple cameras. The more the better..

Works best of all if the cameras are all these models:

Being of a certain age, and from a certain country, I immediately thought of Cresta Bear: https://youtu.be/f9fDhWEJBD0

Very often my best photos were the ones I did just to finish the film...

Tried to sell a camera recently but had no takers so I loaded it up and went out. Put two rolls through it that day, and will be keeping it.

It means taking camera A, sending it to someone else, getting some money, and then spending that money (and more) to later acquire another camera A!

Two steps forward, three steps back.

I am good at buying cameras but bad at selling them. At least I am good at one thing.
