I bought a Praktica PLC3 with never-ready case and strap.

The strap is too short for me so I'd have to chuck that.

The case feels like really cheap plastic, which surprised me as it looks like a leather one you'd get with other makes of camera.

The self-timer tries to not be moved upwards and instantly snaps back into place while firing the shutter.

When set to 1 second, the camera 'sort of' stalled for about the first 3 firings, making a quiet sound that was a bit like a someone trying to start a car with a flat battery, and the aperture blades stayed closed to the f-number while it did so.

It seems to be alright now, but I don't know how much risk there is of it 'sort of' stalling again.

The meter does work with an AA battery, but the needle seems a bit slower than I remember either of my previous two.

That's probably down to the much lower voltage. I should've waited until i could get a 4.5v battery.

I could've sworn the manual says the needle at rest should be just below/at the bottom of the "0" in the viewfinder, but I can't see that bit now.

With all this fault-finding, I suppose I'm not quite as 'enthusiastic' about as I'd hoped.

An M42-mount Meyer-Optik Görlitz Domiplan 50mm f/2.8.

Pretty crappy lens, but should offer some good glowy shots.

A beauty of an Olympus OM-1 with 50mm and 28mm Zuiko lenses.

Been wanting one for a long time, found one at a great price.

I bought a Nikon 52mm centre-pinch lens cap for my AIS 50mm f1.4.

A strap for my Ferrania Elioflex camera-'cos I'm not the octopus I'd need to be to hold the accessory rangefinder, light meter and camera all at once.

A strap for my Praktica FX2 that's long enough to use the camera at waist-level.

A Hoya super multicoated 55mm skylight 1b filter that will go on a Pentacon Electric 29mm lens. Hopefully the one I've bought from ebay will good.

Some Nikon items —— Nikon DR-3 plus DK-22 adapters; I've bought them without being sure they will work the way I'm planning additionally —— see my questions here:

And, also see my «Nikkormat FTn, or something like that?!» thread here:

I bought a 55mm thread wide-angle lens hood for a pentacon electric 29mm lens.

(Even though it's the same thread size as a lens hood I bought for my Tamron 24mm 01BB and it's the same depth, it's also smaller so it seems more suited for the slightly longer focal length.)

The inside of the front does seem a little less than 'Matt' black though. I'll have to find some proper Matt black paint.

Just received my Schneider-Kreuznach Xenogon 35mm Robot lens back from repair. I bought it a few months ago but never got to use it as the aperture blades were dislodged due to oil, so I sent it away straight away.

Heart breaking

A Zeiss Sonnar F2 from the fleabay that however is so full of grease I can cry.

You can see the drop of grease or oil. Actually I think it is a (a tear) from the lens crying too from such a treatment. The seller has not responded to my sorrows yet.

I now tend to trust the sellers less, even if they have a good "rep" on the market.

... this time the right right angle finder —— there's no name on it, but then when new it was quite certainly the most expensive on the market (except there was an Alpa right angle finder?); anyways, on my Bessa R2, it works like a charm —— I just had to add the original Voigtländer «Double Accessory Shoe, Type C», and as a means against stray light I left the aforementioned Nikon DK-22 inbetween

A Kodak No.1A Folding Pocket Special from 1909-1912, useable with 120 format thanks to an adapter kit from Camerhack. It's like a "miniature" version of the No.3A Folding Pocket.

I paid for this on ebay last Thursday (29/11/81) and received it shortly before 3pm today (3/12/18). It came from Italy. Click on thumb for big pic:

A Pentacon Electric 29mm lens.

I can't find anything wrong with it, but the aperture ring is a little stiffer to move than usual and as usual for pentacon lenses the aperture indents are rather light, so sometimes the indent halfway between f22 and f16 feels like it isn't there, but going from f16 to f22 usually shows it is there, especially if I go slow.

It's absolutely not unusual that there's no half stop between f/22 and f/16; this was standard until recently, erm 1970s, or so, before microchip-nonsense and cheapo plastics were built even into expensive lenses. —— Roger Hicks could explain the reason why, do you have any of his books? I think it's explained in his book «A History of the 35mm Still Camera».
