Voigtländer VM 40mm/2.8 lens head

New at CP+ comes a 40mm f/2.8 M collapsible lens head what only works with the VM-E mount adapter.

No idea why the chose a nickel finish - black would seem more fitting.

Is this why Tom A got an A7 ?

It's the weird colour scheme that freaks me. Every time you try to operate one of these weird black controls, which are labeled in black on a black background, a small black light lights up black to let you know you've done it.

That was pretty fast. Maybe too fast.
Was it specially designed to assure excellent performance on the A7?
And who is going to buy to this?
I'd rather try the tiny 40/2.8 Rollei Sonnar on that body. Or just go with a 40/2 Rokkor M, unless the new VM lens has a signature Tessar look.

its interesting that Cosina is using the close up VM to NEX adapter as a focusing helical -

for the proposed 40/2.8
but also for internal mount 50mm Nikon RF and Contax RF lenses (by adding the appropriate adapter)

other lens heads for the VM-E adapter could follow - time will tell.

Please note these are "reference" pieces which have not yet been cleared for regular production.

I like the compact form factor.

I got the A7 because it allows me through various adapters to use any of my 70+ lenses (except 1 lens) on the A7. I have a Xenon 50mm 1.9 for my Robot Royal that won't fit).
The Heliar 40mm f2.8 and the VM-E adapter can be used on any E-mount body - not only the A7. It is also designed so that the lens can be collapsed on the adapter without damaging electronics or sensor of the camera.
I asked the lens designer to compare its performance to the Heliar 50mm f3.5 and he said that it was least equal to it, maybe even better!!!!!

I was looking forward to the release/evaluations of the Loxia 35mm, but it seems that the Loxia lacks an electronically controlled aperture, so for critical focus, I'm still opening the aperture, focusing and then stopping down. Giving up one stop for the small size and much less expensive Heliar (I already have the adapter) seems like an easy choice... if it is really that good.

I wish Voigtländer would make some small m43 optimized MF lenses.
A really compact top quality 17...20mm f/2 scale focus pancake would go well with the GM5.

If it´s equal to the 50mm f3.5 heliar it´s ...

Great news!

I simply love 40mm lenses.
