No problem scanning E100
I dont think Ektar looks like this
Brooks Plaubel Veriwide 100, Kodak E100G, scan using my iphone 8 and dropping the film onto a light table, with nothing holding it flat!

I've shot one roll and have another three or four in the fridge. From the little I've seen, I agree with the comments that Ektar 100 compares well with Ektachrome 100, though I have to give it also a whirl at EI 80 which seems a bit more promising. One thing that slide film does, even for those of us who don't project, is that it provides for a quick overview. It's as if you have a contact sheet without any need to scan the entire roll. It's more expensive but it saves time.

I met up with a local photog who was selling some overstock he had (P400) but told me he had some 120 ektachrome. Too bad I was out of cash and could only grab 1 roll of E100VS and another of E100G. Expired 2007 and always refrigerated, yours looks great!
EDIT: Haven't shot E100 yet (waiting for 120) but a few samples I've seen under certain conditions approach Kodachrome in look. I do wonder that at Kodak they may nudged it a bit towards getting that look, within the design envelope of approaching E100G.

Ok, it is Spring in some parts and warmer weather is ahead.
Reminder:
Have you stocked up on Ektachrome?
Who is shooting E100 this month? You know you want to.
I have been busy shooting 220 Ektachrome and I need to order some more 35mm E100 soon!

I thought about getting a roll for this Easter in Santa Barbara, CA, but didn't order in time. We are having a late spring here so I have a couple of weeks. My hip is good and I'm almost back with the living.

I think I'm finally ready to order some.
In June I'll be spending a long weekend Upstate right on the Hudson River.
If the weather is bad I'll shoot BW in my Nikonos, and save the E100
for our leaf-peeping trip in The Berkshires Columbus Day Weekend.

Mmm, perhaps... The new Ektachrome 100 presents a more true luminescence of the light and colour - real colour - to my eyes. And so do most slide film. I shoot it because it shows the colour that was there on the scene. Or is it the contrast? Any ways, it's more real to me.

Several posts mention high cost.
Currently the 135-36 film is available from various sellers for just under $13.00.
B&H has 1 roll with prepaid mailer for processing by Dwayne's for $23.95;
film only alone (without processing) is priced at $12.99 per roll.

I know it's a bit OT and more appropriate for the GAS thread, but spend those $ on Ektachrome instead! Thinking about the film and processing keeps my GAS at bay.
Ironically, I thought I would first shoot slide with the Rolleicord with Ektachrome... and turns out I'll be as I just loaded the E100G roll I got the other day into it. Now, flowers aren't still here so it's time to look for other colorful things and maybe take a while to shoot it through.
Would like to get some friend on it, but life keeps them apart of my cameras.

First frame, first roll. Just kind of a random street shot, but it shows that the film speed and the sunny-16 rule and the meter in the camera all seem to agree.
My first impression is that the character of the film is somewhat between Astia and Kodachrome. Looks more vivid than Astia.
I'm still working through some minor scan issues but the finished ones so far look good.

Yes I had a tough time with this one, medicine goof ups.
I'll be able to shoots some soon. I love some of my images from my first roll, but I thinking of fill flash for the early and late afternoon.
Like this one that would have benefited:

My first roll. The reds just jump out at you. Great saturation. Not as fine grained as Velvia, but still excellent. First observations are all positive (excuse the bad pun).

Any direct comparisons (not necessarily same photo, but two shots side by side, or on the same scanner?) to E100G ?
From what I've seen, it's not super contrasty, and the mid tones are a little... murky?

I never shot E100G, and seldom regular Ektachrome, I was a Kodachrome guy.
That bridge shot was in high contrast conditions, so the mid tones are rare. The street shot also pretty bright lighting, overhead. This shot is in more subdued (missed the focus):

I guess I'll have to shoot a roll and see. I wanna see if it pops with leaves, reds etc

Don't know what "pop" means, but you can see my bridge shot has leaves and reds. Why not try a roll, that's what they made it for.

I just rescanned the slides that the lab had done. What a difference, much better, sharper, deeper colors than what their system uses.

Really enjoyed this thread. Getting the desire to shoot some film again. I've not shot film for years, but still have over a dozen cameras and many lenses. I thought that I would get back to film due to my preference for B&W film, but this thread has me interested in E-6 again. Need to re-educate myself on using my Jobos. I've not shot much 35mm E-6, but love 645 and especially 6x7.
Any speculation as to when there might be a 120 version of this film? Viewing 6x7 slide film on a lightbox is just stunning. I never projected, but that must be something.

My small stash of former Ektachrome is now gone. I decided to cross processed the very last roll in C-41 and was surprised that with good inversion the results don't have to scream 'lomo'. The grain is bigger, though.
This is cross-processed Elitechrome 100 ("consumer" version of Ektachrome) expired in 2012:
And this is the new E100 (standard E-6 process):
