Hi guys,

I just saw a wooden antique camera on the big bay selling for $ 1 million on a bidding war, and there are still a few days to go before the auction ends. Is this a joke or something? I am speechless now.:bang:

Cheers,

Zhang

Wow, for a (movie, not still) camera like I would think that the seller would have thought to put up more pictures. He's only put up pictures of the name plates/serial number plaque thus far, and one small overall picture.

It's a museum piece, for sure, though not quite sure why it's worth so terribly much.

appendum: I just noticed that the seller has ZERO feedback, and registered only 4 days ago.
Also, it looks like bidder 4 might be a shill bidder; either that or he was really intent on singlehandedly driving the price up from $25,000 to $1,000,000 in only 4 bids..

I'm doubtful about this auction. The 0 feedback is not a problem since I can easily imagine that the seller is known by the potential buyers. If it's a real auction, the item must have been referenced in collector books.
What is much more disturbing is the fact that the seller prefers Paypal to get paid. That's not only weird, that's altogether irrational as Paypal fees are exorbitant. The other disturbing thing is that the seller ships only to Canada/US/UK ... as if he could refuse to ship to, says, Italy if a museum offered 2 millions $; or to Saudia if a rich prince paid 3 millions $. That's silly.

Obviously, something is wrong as it is now at 77.00$ or so. Might have been a mis-bid or something like that.

The seller canceled many of the bids, giving two reasons for all the bids:

Explanation: You are a good buyer ??????? or what you what ? you are a scamer... ?
and
Explanation: hahahaha

So, I guess the seller isn't much of a scammer, if he accused bidders of scamming.

Hi,

Even 10 mil Italian lira is a lot of money.:bang: I am wondering what is the current record price for a vintage camera? They seem to fetch much less than vintage watches. One miliion usd is not unusual for a gold watch.

I think shipping is not an issue, for that kind of money the collector/museum will send someone to collect in person.

More interesting is that the real seller (Sam Dodge) (and not on EBAY) lives just south of me (west of Tacoma): http://www.samdodge.com/html/moy370/FrameSet.htm

He has an amazing collection of old cameras (movie) http://www.samdodge.com/ (check out the BiPlane link, some great photographs).

I've sent a message to him about the sale
It gets more amusing, here is the response from Sam Dodge (the real seller):

Thanks for the heads up. I have been high bidder for a million and a half for a couple of days now. Wanna outbid me? LOL

He is the seller and buyer at the same time? What is up?

Hm. Sounds like he's cheating the system. Bidding up his own camera?
Whoa there! :D

The EBAY seller (not Sam Dodge) is performing a scam! He has stolen photographs from Sam Dodge's web site (http://www.samdodge.com/html/moy370/FrameSet.htm) and is pretending to have the camera. The real camera is for sale on Sam's site. Sam has been making the phony bids on EBAY to mess with the scammer. It's not rocket science.
