How I Am Doing My Weekly Selection

Due to the massive work involved in reviewing all pics, the technical facilities provided by RFF, my time and my hardware - I had to take a draconian decision and pick pictures to enlarge according to what I can see or not see at the thumbnails level.

This is not the best way to work, as it would be much fair to have a slide show. Therefore I assume I am missing many images deserving to be singled out, that I am just not seeing.

When we watch a printed contact sheet, we can use a lupe and get a much more fidel impression of the image, than doing it at thumbnail level. Hence I apologize to all photographers whose pictures deserved my attention and didn't got it.

Now, whithin the existing software facilities at RFF, there is still the question if I am making the most of it. The only thing that I can say in this area is that I am using the choise of having 90 thumbnails per page.

Any further advice about how to better use current facilities will be very much welcome.

Cheers,
Ruben

No further suggestions ruben, but I agree with what you're saying about the thumbnails and the lack of information that can be gleaned from each one.

Even with trying I find that I miss lovely shots because I didn't notice some nuance or the point from the small thumbnail/title and these turn up in the Gallery Picks thread.

There is one more thing (perhaps unconnected) which I was thinking about yesterday. It would be lovely to be able to order small (4x6/5x7) prints of the images in the gallery, I would stick them in a scrapbook and find them more useful for learning and inspiration than (pretty much) any book I've ever bought.

Ruben. What I tend to do is visit the Gallery on a daily basis and stick the ones I like best into My Favourites for submission the following Monday. This takes me anywhere form 10-30 minutes a day, depending on how I feel. It's an exercise I enjoy as it gives me an opportunity to look at a few photo's each day.

Same here - I check all the thumbnails, either during the week or all at once at the weekend, and then enlarge and keep a track of my favourite ones. But then when I subsequently review the "Picks of the week" thread, I always find some great shots that I hadn't seen, and can't figure out how I missed them.

I do the daily or twice daily save to favorites thing, and still miss good ones that other people flag up later in Gallery Picks.
