Hi everyone, :)

I'd like to use collapsible lenses on my Nikon rangefinder, so I got a vintage Carl zeiss Jena sonnar 5cm F2.0, but it coudln't fully mount on reissue S3, SP.

I think It's not a problem between a latch and lens tip. even after removing the latch from the body, it was not able to mount a lens on the body. see bellow picture. You may see enough space between latch and mounting tip.

IMHO, the three mounting blade(?) on the lens are thicker than Nikon's internal mount. because of this, it won't mount on Nikon reissue bodies.

But I found interesting picture during web surfing.

 Are there any differences between sonnar 5cm 2.0 and tessar 5cm 3.5? or reissue Nikon RF between original Nikon RF?

Thanks in advance :)

It's not the identical problem, but shares many of the same factors: there are differences in tolerances between the lens parts & the camera body & together they can add up to some lenses not mounting on some bodies, e.g., I have a WWII/early post-WWII CZJ 50/1.5 Sonnar that won't mount on all of my Contax RF bodies because the entire rear part of the lens is thicker, not just the tabs. It's also possible that the mounting tab(s) on your lens was bent out of alignment (hard to tell from your 2nd photo); if so, you can try bending it back, gingerly, & see if that makes a difference.

See this thread: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58187

I read linked thread carefully, but it's different. mounting sonnar problem is unrelated to height of the S3's guide screw. I think there is another reason.

Read this :

http://www3.telus.net/public/rpnchbck/loose inner lens mount.html

And do the very reverse operation on your CZJ collapsible 50/2 Sonnar. It will probably solve your problem.

When done, you will find, that using a Contax Zeiss 50mm lens on a Nikon RF camera may lead to focusing issues anyway...

Mine mounts just fine on a Nikon rangefinder. But I would not use it.

Thanks for that link. It clearly illustrates what I was trying to describe (much less clearly).

I agree w/your last point, too. I wonder what's the going rate on the collapsible 5cm/2 Nikkors . . .

Oh my goodness, it works!! :D
As see in linked page, it was super-easy fix, it took only 15 seconds.
Don't worry about focusing issues, I'm gonna stop down to F4, at least.

You are the best Highway 61! and thank you so much furcafe too :)

I used tipped slotted screwdriver to force the mounting tab towards the rear lens element side. (little different from linked page)

Fully mounted, Now it is ready to shoot-out!!

Ah, yes. Mounting issues. I find that both an early 50mm f1.4 Nikkor I own and a 50mm f2 Sonnar (pre-war, collapsible) mount easily on my Nikon M/s, but will not turn all the way on on either my S2 or SP.
External mounts have similar problems. Kilar reflex housings and Novoflex housing mount on the M/S, but two out of three would not go onto an SP. The problem here seems to be the clearance between the front escutcheon and the bayonet flanges. Grinding off the tinest fraction of the back surface of the Novoflex mount (does not affect focus) solved that problem for that housing. WES
