You only get three choices on this one. If you could only own one camera, which would it be and why.

Neither. I am happy with what I have.

Tried the R-D1 and was less than impressed by the image quality compared to our 6 MPix *istDL2.
Don't like the exposure lock button on the back of the ZM as I am left-eyed.

Best regards,
Uwe

I've had both and now have neither, using an MP instead. I don't miss the Ikon. I do miss the RD1S.

I had both.
Every time it came down to a choice between the two, the answer was always, unequivocally, the ZI.
I sold the RD-1 for that reason. The only time it ever made sense for me was in tandem with the ZI, and even that wasn't reason enough.
The ZI is more fun to use. And film fits my aspirations and needs better.

I do not think you can compare them as one is digital and the other not, the underlying question is more film or digital.

Very tough choice! I have both and find it tough to choose between them when heading out. The ZI usually gets the vote as it's a wonderful camera to use (viewfinder, full frame for lenses, design & aesthetics, etc).

That said I find that I get better results from the R-D1s (thus far). The sensor resolution (megapixels or whatever) seems to be perfect for this camera - In fact if an R-D2 came along all I'd really want is full frame sensor - keep the resolution and everything else as is please. Oh, plus there's none of the time consuming developing and scanning with the R-D1s.

Tough choice indeed.

I agree 100%.

RD1. I've never used a ZI, but I know that I use my RD1 over my M6TTL and my Hexar RF, so I'm not sure what more a ZI would bring to the party that would change that.

Now, if I had to choose between an up-to-date digital ZI-D or RD2 (say, with a D300 sensor) I'd probably choose the ZI....

The R-D1 is getting a lot of use right now, but it's circumstantial. Much as I like what I can do with the R-D1, I still prefer film. If I could keep only one camera it would be the OM-1. If I could keep only one RF it would be the ZI (over the Hexar RF - sorry old girl! - over the M6, over the Bessa R3A). The ZI has AE, that killer VF, and a warranty. 'Nuff said.
