Anyone else going to Arles in July? It's frighteningly soon. Anglophone is. Cam is (unless she cancels her hotel reservation). There's a good tapas restaurant in the Place Voltaire, or we could have a jug of wine (or indeed a meal) outside the Hotel Voltaire. Any others going to be there?

Tashi delek,

R.

I'm making good progress since my illness, and the bike is coming out of hibernation soon!, so if you see an old guy on a Yam FJ1200 around there - say hello!. We've crossed the Alps three times, over the years, and a trip into France would be nice - before we are both too old!
Cheers, Dave.

Just got back from there last month. It is a wonderful town to photograph in. Or just to visit. I have hundreds of shots. Highly recommended!

Drove through Arles last night, checking out spot to park my camper. Looks like I can be there from 9-12th
Tapas, wine , I'm for that!

Hi Roger,

I wish I as going this year, but alas... I had an absolutely wonderful time last year and particularly enjoyed my afternoon with you and Frances, and was looking forward to a reunion this year. I tried emailing a few times since, but they kept bouncing back. I didn't discover your kind words about me in your Arles review until last January. Many thanks. May I quote them and link to your site from mine? I'm sending you the Zone Simple materials we talked about soon. Enjoy Arles. If I had my way, I'd be there every year just to hear you sing. By the way, Hood Hats changed my life. Some images from Arles last year:

We had hoped to get that way this year but a family wedding has messed up our summer holiday plans.
Next year - fingers crossed.

Cheers, Robin

Dear Charlie,

Of course link!

Nice images. Sorry you'll not be there. The pics were waiting when we got back from Greece: thanks very much. Haven't had time to read the letter yet!

Cheers,

R.

Roger,
Would love to go to Arles and meet up - just been past there (but couldn't stop) on a school trip for canoeing in the Ardèche and then to Cap d'Agde on the Med. What a life!

Can't promise but wlll look into it and send an update before too long. Tapas and wine - easily kicks even Leica into second place!

Cheers,
Tom

Roger,
Sorry - late update - it's probably all underway by now. I'm afraid I can't go as I've taken up some extra work for a fortnight.

Best wishes,
Tom

Dear Tom,

Work! The curse of the drinking classes!

(Got back from Arles 2 hours ago -- 491 miles, including back streets, in 9-1/2 hours on a 1978 BMW R100RS.)

Cheers,

R.

Dear Roger,

Intrepid traveller! Doesn't the bike shake the hell out of the Leica lens and rangefinder alignment? Not because it's a BMW but just generally!

Work is a curse - but actually I enjoy it and the extra money might lead me to do something really silly like contribute towards an 18/3.8 Super-Elmar for the Ms. But if I had the discipline I'd be saving for a new-style Noctilux and buying it in a few years, just in time for my slowly ageing eyes not to be able to focus even with the brilliant Leica viewfinder system.

Actually, the BMW R100RS sounds more fun... ...

Egészségedre!
Tom

Roger,

That sounds like it was a great trip. Taking a page from my fathers opinion pool - the newer BMWs are nice appliances but a 1978 Rally Sport is a true motorcycle.

Best,

A coupleof shots from our Arles visit in March. Shot with D-lux 3 and D-lux 4.
