your favorite SLR

Forgot about hassy 500cm. It's one damn fine SLR and I love mine, but I gotta say, OM is still my most favorite SLR.
 
Nikon F2 - CLA'd by Sower Wong and loved ever since. As I've said before - Nikon F2, Nikkor-H 50/2, some spare time and a bunch of HP5+ in my pockets... that's bliss.
 
It would have been interesting to have had a poll with this thread ... I supect the Olympus OM series would wipe the floor!

I haven't experienced many others ... I had a Canon AE-1 years ago and still have a Pentax SP500 lurking in the cupboard and I've never held or laid eyes on any of the Nikons!

If there is a better designed SLR out there than the OM-1 I'd have it in a heartbeat ... looks like I'll be sticking with my Oly though. Being able to focus, change aperture and alter shutter speed all with the left hand while your right index finger is poised over the shutter button makes the OM series very special IMO!

I saved all my money being a teenager to buy me a "real" camera- it was a Voigtländer VSL1, it had nice optics, but was very clunky and heavy. and it didn't survived the first two years, it fell and fell apart.... I saved another hell lotta a money to boy me a "real" real camera - a Nikon, what else in the 80's... so I bought this FE, it fell three times on concrete, it was allover the world. it taught me all I needed to know. It still works like new (well, that green marker in the VF moved two stops after fall 2, but who needs that anyway?).

I tend to use a F3 more often, and an FM with motor comes in second. But the old lady, the venerable FE, sure is my favorite SLR.
 
As my 35mm SLR kits have changed, my favourite SLR has changed too...

First, Pentax Spotmatic, back in 1969.

Then Nikon F3-HP around 1990.

Switching to Olympus about 5 years ago, the OM-2N quickly became my favourite (with the OM1n a close second).

But then I got an Olympus OM-4T, and that's my favourite ever SLR.
 
No surprise here, the Fujica ST 901. SBC blue cell with EV -3 to 18 @ ASA 25, manual shutter speeds from 1/60 to 1/1000 w/o battery, stepless speeds from 30 seconds to 1/1000 in aperture priority auto-exposure mode, small and compact with the incredible Fujinon lenses, shutter speeds visible by led in viewfinder. Just nice.
I have Pentax, Yashica, and Minolta SLR, but they don't touch the Fujica imho. If for some reason I wasn't allowed to have it, I guess I would go for an OM with auto exposure. I'm sure I would like it, but not as much.

I vote for the Miranda Auto Sensorex. I came across that particular SLR System in the last year. I could find a nearly new and completely functional one. I especially like the possibility to change between viewfinder and waistlevelfinder - a comfort that I´m used to from other mediumformat systems.
I like the "full-metal-feeling" of that camera and the lenses are really good performers too.
I do have a Nikon fm2, but that one lacks the auto exposure - so I go with the Miranda...

my Nikon F100 was almost perfect for me. But recently if not shooting RF I go more an d more back to my FM2, specially for B&W.

I have an OM2n and OM4-Ti (both are black). The former is definitely my fave because the winder is much smoother and I'm pretty sure that the VF is much bigger too.

There are two things preventing me from 100% adoring the FT. One is, I wish the advance lever were as smooth as the one on the 35RC. The other is that I still haven't figured out a good way to scan the pictures. It's possible on VueScan, you have to adjust the frame spacing, but get it one fraction of a millimeter wrong and you'll have a black bar in the middle of every picture by the end of the roll.

But in principle, the FT is a marvel!
 
I'm a man of simple tastes, this ones been with me from new (seventies) - never missed a beat, and never been for any of this regular CLA nonsense! - I promised not to send her to 'Ting Tang Chee' for some superfluous dollops of grease and oil, and she's remained faithful and smooth as the proverbial baby's butt! :p

I had a very good time with my black Pentax MX
I didn't like too much the Olympus OM2n in comparison, which I eventually sold.
The MX is just perfect for me, very solid and reliable, I keep it my bag without any protection and it never failed so far :)

I like my black FM2n particularly with my Nikkor 35mm/f:2 lens.

Lately I've been thinking that it would be nice to have AE / AE lock and spot metering. I assume F4 would have those.
