Olympus E-P2 Macro Photos

Been playing around with my new E-P2 lately. Thought I would share a few of the more recent photos with all of you. These are some flowers from my front garden.

Almost all of these photos were taken with a SMC macro takumar 50/4 (with an adapter of course). I used a tripod for all the macro tak shots. The orchid photo is the only photo taken with a different lens - super tak 50/1.4 handheld.

Not being too used to digital, I managed to not only accidentally leave auto ISO on with a max of 1600, but also IS on (big no no apparently when using a tripod). So, some of these photos are at ISO 1250 / 1600. A couple are at ISO 200 (changed the setting when I realized my error).

I dont find the noise objectionable at all, but your tastes may differ. I used minimal noise reduction in one or two photos, but none in the rest. In fact, in some photos I exaggerated the noise via post processing. I certainly dont hesitate using the camera at ISO 1600, but I havent tried it at any ISO settings higher than that. Further, I didnt seem to notice much, if any, difference between IS on and IS off with regard to tripod use.

Makes me want to drag out the old Tokina AT-X macro-zoom, but it's so big, I'd be afraid to mount it on the tiny Pen, let alone then screw the Pen onto a tripod. Something would break, I fear.

Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately, no fixture or plate on the lens itself exists. When the FD adapter arrives, I'll mount the Tokina and see how it balances. Gee, it's been almost 10 days since I ordered that adapter off ebay... Better see where I ordered it from. Probably China.

Nice macros, though! I like the first one the best.
 
You might consider making a homemade fixture with a small piece of wood and some plastic zip ties. Wouldn't look so pretty, but it should be effective.

I think I ordered my adapters from rainbowimaging. They shipped from the USA and arrived very quickly.

I've always used manual focus for my macro photos. With so many inexpensive legacy lenses available, I don't see the need to spend money on the panasonic macro. Even getting the current nikon 60mm micro lens and an adapter makes more sense to me.
 
Exactly, and why not use one of the strengths of the Pen, its ability to use so many legacy lenses. Coming from a dslr background, though, it just didn't even dawn on me to use a legacy macro, so I was glad to see your post.

A few more macro photos from the front garden....


It was pretty tough to manually focus close up on the bees. They were being uncooperative and refusing to stay still for very long. Quite pleased with this shot though.

Same for this little guy. Not sure what type of bug he is, but he was quick! I had to prefocus and just wait ten minutes or so for him to show up on that flower again. Worth it though. I like the geometry in this photo.

By the way, anybody have experience using the 454 manfrotto macro rail? Or the novoflex castel mini? Would like to hear some opinions on those two items.
