hi all
i was wondering what is the current going price for a well kept used
Nikonos V Underwater camera + f/2.5 35mm lens?

its quite hard to find prices on these cameras these days
thanks so much

It is hard to believe that a Nik V camera can be purchased today for less than $300. I can't remember exactly how much having the 35mm lens adds to the price, but I don't think it's too much more. The lens that still commands a decent price, but quite low compared to its original cost, is the 15mm Nikonos lens for the Nik V.

I tried to sell my Nik V a few months ago on Ebay and got no bidders. I also own the Sea & Sea 15mm lens but it doesn't even command the price that the mighty 15mm Nikonos still brings.

If you go to the KEH web site, you will see prices for this camera/lens. They used to have it in their print catalog, but the last one I got didn't even have them listed.

Kind regards,

Ellen

i checked ebay and the prices are seriously all over the place.
some on the low 100 to even upper 200 usd for the nikonos V kit

side qns. due to the under water nature of the camera, its not possible to mount other lens types to the nikonos right? only nikonos lens can be used yeah?

Correct. But another company, Sea and Sea, I think, made compatable lenses. I bought my last Nikonos V for $170 with 35mm lens that can be used above and below water.

They are very rugged cameras and can be used above water but almost certainly will need servicing and not just the gasket. Frequently water seeps in under the advance lever.

If you have not had it serviced or you do not know the service history best to go ahead and service it. There is a rubber gasket between the lens and camera that needs a very small amount of lubricant periodically depending on how it is stored or used. (I, personally, do not use mine much and lubricate it once per year.) It is recommended that it be replaced yearly...that is the recommendation that was given to me. As far as water in the advance lever...There is a black piece of rubber material that covers the top of the lever. Water becomes trapped under that and can seep into the mechanism, which happened to me. A 'wire' needed replacement and the black cap removed. I am not a camera repair person. I had my camera sent out. I had purchased it used. I used it for a period of time and then sent it for maintenance. I have discovered that any piece of equipment used for diving needs to be serviced periodically and maintained with more discipline. For instance, using a Nikonos camera whether in the ocean, lake or pool needs to be rinsed or and dried after each use to remove chlorine or salt. Another piece of advice use 36 shot rolls as you can not remove film under water or for that matter change lenses, which is why I never purchased a second lens. But, the good thing is that in warmer climates where there is a lot of sunlight ISO 100 will work 60 feet under water in daylight. I hope that this is helpful.

thank you so much
this is very helpful

i wonder if it is possible to clean and replace the rubber gasket that covers the top of the lever oneself...
