Leica Elmar 50mm F2.8

It is one of my favorite 50s with the added advantage of being collapsable thus making for a nice, compact package on an M camera.

with Pan film it makes great classic look.

I really like this photo - it feels as though it is a still from the Orson Welles movie the "Trial" adapted from Kafka's book.

This lens is perhaphs one of the more underappreciated Leica lens produced.

Ok ...just joined the Club
got my Screwmount version Today...1957 rock solid . Minty,Beautiful Elmar to share on my barnack & M3

Love the way it Draws....

That's a good vintage Helen. I look forward to seeing what you do with it. Mine's from 1956 according to the number - contemporary with its owner! :D I've only had it a few weeks and need to shoot a few rolls with it. It is now on the Hexar - it does collapse safely and makes for a very compact outfit.

Congratulations Helen for joining the Elmar club. That is an awesome combination, very compact. Did you go you shooting with it yet?

That is one of the main reasons that I love my current setup with the latest Elmar M- all in all a very compact cool outfit. So quick to focus with excellent rendering.

My Two Leitz Elmars.

My Two Leitz Elmars.

I love how my Elmars draw, especially in the background rendition.

On the left, my 90mm F4 from 1956.
On the right, my 50mm F2.8 from 1960.

Two of my favorite lenses to use.

The Dymo labeling tape protects my M5 and Sony Nex-3 bodies.

Also got my Elmar, it's never going to come off my M2. I just need to find a lens hood and UV/Yellow filter for it!

Still haven' developed pictures I took with it. I just discovered scale-focus, changed my life.

I've been thinking of a 50mm 2.8 Elmar screwmount. Can you answer a question?

I have a Summicron collapsible and a 3.5 Elmar. The question is with the 2.8 Elmar collapsed how far does it stickout in comparison to the other two?

thanks
Jim

Elmar 50/2.8 M-mount from 1960.

Jim, are you sure that there is a LTM version of 2.8?

It is bit less than 2,5cm with original metal cap.
