Zeiss 40.5mm UV filter.

I have been looking for months for the above filter, obviously it will have to be used as I doubt that a new one would be being made now.
As those of you that use the same kind of set up know, the filter goes on back side first allowing the lens hood to go inside the front inner ring.
So does anyone know where I should look other than on the EBAY site. I found two on there that were like new and for good prices but the UV filter never comes up.
Thank you for any input.
James.

Is this a screw-in 40.5mm filter or an obscure push-on size? For the screw-on format, there are new filters of all types in 40.5 format that allow additional items of 40.5mm thread to be screwed to the front of the filter. Both Adorama and BH Photo carry the screw-in versions.

If you can find it, Rodenstock makes a thin mount that might do the trick. I think that Heliopan makes a thin mount, too.

OK you are teaching me something, I am an old fart and have only just started getting into the folder life.
I have purchased two filters in the last month or so, an orange and a yellow. My Father only used a yellow/green filter with this camera. The old lens hood is aluminum and rather fragile, it does not screw or twist in, as you probably know it just pushes in.
So are you telling me I could buy new filters and a screw in type lens hood for this camera, if so I would be elated. I am always thinking that I may drop the lens hood and not be able to replace it again.
Any help comes with my thanks.......................................
I will tell you my story.........my Mother and Father took their lives back in 2003, they were found arm in arm in bed by the Police back in England. He was a retired Doctor and he just put them both to sleep, sadly Father must have had to take care of Mother first and then himself soon after, his being alone with my Mother now dead next to him has haunted me, old and ill, how he did what he had to do, well it took a real man to do it all.

I always wanted the camera because he loved it so much.
Well it has taken me eight years to get to this stage where I could handle the camera, I suppose I felt that I did not have the right to use it. They had asked me to move back to England and look after them, I had refused because I was too old and had lived in the USA for thirteen years by then, he never spoke with me again other than a business like tone of a conversation with him the week before they did it.................................................
So you know now my situation regarding getting the camera used again.
Cheers for any further input.
James.

Yes - you can buy new versions of both. Right now on Ebay there quite a few vented hoods and a few vintage Voigtlander hoods in 40.5mm. As for the filters, as mentioned previously, Adorama and BH Photo have a good selection of black & white contrast filters, UV, etc. available on-line.

Well, now that you mention that this may be an unusual setup, I'll throw in a couple of extra possibilities.

First is like my old Zeiss Super Ikonta B. It takes push-on filters and hoods. That size is designated by an "A" prefix, e.g., A37. You can find these as used camera dealers that specialize in this sort of stuff. I use Manfred Schmidt www.manfredschmidt.com . I also have seen this sort of stuff at www.jimscamerasseattle.com and www.igorcamera.com .

I have a Fuji GS670, which has an exact Voigtlănder counterpart. It has a hood that clamps onto the lens and the filter is mounted inside the hood and held by a retaining ring in the hood. It is necessary to use a thin-mount filter in order to get that whole thing to work without vignetting. It is these thin-mount filters in 40.5mm that are difficult to find and to which I formerly referred.

Otherwise, I am at a loss to tell you where to find what you need.

Some of the Zeiss Ikon medium format folders use push-on filters, while others use threaded filters mounted reversed.

It depends on the folder.

For example, the Ikonta and Super Ikonta A with a Tessar lens take 35.5mm filters. The Super Ikonta III and IV and Mess Ikonta 524/16 use the same 35.5mm filters. This size is also shared with the Tenax II and the post-war Ikoflex cameras.

The Super Ikonta C and Mess Ikonta 524/2 use 40.5mm filters, as do many Contax lenses: 21, 35, 50, 85 Triotar and 135. The 85 Sonnar has a 49mm thread.

Very sad to hear about your parents. It seems you are coming to grips with it. That is good. Very glad to hear you are using the camera. The old folders give much better photos than many people think. Many of us have then and use them with much pleasure.
