Hi,
I write this post to inform you that I recently developed an EXIF editor dedicated to any analog photography lovers.

With this tool you can edit:
  • EXIF Data
  • Camera Data
  • GPS Location
  • XMP Data
  • XMP Photoshop Data
So your image archived on Aperture, Lightroom etc.... or posted on communities like Flickr will show correct EXIF information instead of "This photo was taken using an EPSON V700".

The tool is completely free, you can enjoy it here: www.theXifer.net

Here's my blog post regarding it: theXifer.net - Just a web based EXIF Editor

Just a couple of screenshots:

Please send me some feedbacks about it ;)
Cheers!!

Hi,
nobody wants to test it?

Please give a try, It's currently a beta version and I need some feedbacks just to see if it's working correctly.

THANKS!!

Andrea, I might try it with a roll of 120 later; is there an option to add film type anywhere? I've seen something somewhere to add film type into EXIF data, so I know it's theoretically possible, but that editor only took one photo at a time. Yours seems like a much better solution.

I'm still waiting for an Exif editor in iPhoto/Aperture, myself. Not going to happen though, is it?

Regarding film type and other analog related processing information: The EXIF standard doesn't support analog sources at all. But you may use a general text field by your own to tag for film make and type as well as minilab or DIY processing information. I chose EXIF tag 0x000b "ProcessingSoftware" for exactly the same requirements.

But the used software solution has to support arbitratry tags of course...

Hi,
I've made a little search before the software development because the film type as EXIF data will be really useful but unfortunately as act wrote, it's not an EXIF standard.

Many people use the keywords field to do this.

Anyway I'll try to find an alternative to get the film type information into the EXIF data ;)

I'm sorry but I rarely use iPhoto and Aperture anyway I've never saw something like an EXIF editor in iPhoto, Aperture or Lightroom.

Coldkennels, I'll be very happy to get your feedback.
Actually I've few problem with my hosting service, sometimes the server don't work properly, please let me know if you have any problems.

Andrea, I tried it last night but I kept getting an error every time I uploaded a photo. The loading bar would reach the end, and then it just wouldn't let me access the files.

Looks like it works now, though. Next time I shoot a roll of 120 I'll try using the EXIF editor on the whole lot and see how it goes.

when I scan most of my film images, at least the 'keepers', they end up at up to 500mb per file. In these cases, using the network connection as your pipeline isn't effective.. you need speeds of local disk (SATA and such). I started to try one on the site, but it estimated the upload time of a single image at over an hour, whereas a local exif editor will do it in moments. The editor is probably perfect for images targeted for web display, but not print

Hi, thanks for the feedback.
I've not understood if you have the upload problem with all the pictures you've uploaded or just with a specific file.

If the upload bar reach the end, please try to wait until the "Load the eXif.er" button appear.

Please try again and let me know just te filename so I can check the log.
Thanks!!

The ones that failed to upload last night were all titled "yashicad hp5_00xx", with xx being a unique number for each one. Hope that helps.

Coldkennels your feedback has been very helpful ;)
I've corrected a little bug just now.

Unfortunately your images have took a lot of memory to create the small thumbnail and this is an issue for my hosting server.

I check every images but yours are strange....they're small in file size (about 1MB) but very bit in image size, this is the log:

"ImageSize": "2616x2620"

So you have 1MB image with "2616x2620", it's strange...how have you scanned it?

ANYWAY this should not be an issue for my tool, so I've fixed it (I hope).
Please try to upload your Yashica images, now you'll be able to edit them ;)

Thanks and let me know!!

I'm really sorry Guys but actually my hosting provider has some problems in processing perl script so the eXif.er isn't working properly.

Tomorrow when I'll come back home I hope to fix any issue.

Please sorry and be patient!
