It's a killer lens - on either the M8 or M9.

You might recognize this scene from the Empire Strikes Back, when the Millenium Falcon takes off from Endor (home of the Ewoks)... Shot from Tik'al, Guatemala - atop its highest temple:

endor (or rather the second moon of endor) doesn't appear in 'empire'! :D :D :D

I'd be using it on a GXR or film body, so coding doesn't really affect me too much.

Hmm....

I see a new lens purchase in my future.

You'll enjoy it! I had one a few years back and foolishly sold it. Glad to have it back, and it seems smaller than I remember! Depending on your needs, you may want to consider the ZM C Biogon 21/4.5, which is better than the 18 in every way except that it's a 21, not an 18. The 18 has a little more contrasty "pop" than the perfectionist 21. On the GXR, you will probably want at least an 18, however.

I use the 18 primarily to capture expansive sky vistas on the M8. For film (FF), I still prefer/am used to working with the C Biogon 21.

Coded, the ZM 18 makes a Dynamic Duo with the Nokton 35/1.2 on the M8. With the 75 cron, the Duo makes an Invincible Trio.

I actually have the 21/4.5 and use it pretty regularly on the GXR. Looking towards a few wider lenses for use on the GXR mount. In paricular the CV 12/5.6 & 15/4.5. An 18 would be icing. :)

good tip, jon, thanks. re comparing the 2 lenses, haven't been able to shoot much lately but will do so. my impression is that they're both so good anything i could say would be hair-splitting.

Crap, posting these pics is making me think about this lens again. I have since bought the ZM 21 C Biogon but haven't been able to get out much lately.

Can't go wrong with a C Biogon...!

If you check my signature, you'll see that I think these two lenses have a place in the same stable :D ! But if I had to choose only one of the two, it would be the C Biogon for film and the Distagon for digital (though the C Biogon works fabulous as a 28 on the M8).

Photos #2 and #3 are alternately stunning and alluring, and show off the flexibility of the lens. The soft pastel colors of #2 and the reflection of the sun in #3 are details that really work, for me.

Subjective opinions, too, would be most welcome, Mike. If you're reticent about making them public, though, I'd most appreciate some thoughts, even random ones, in a pm.

I had the 25 for a while, but the Leica 24 seems to handle high contrast landscapes better.

Lots of great photos here - really makes me want to try this lens too. Just not sure if superwide is for me - I usually dont go wider than 21mm.
