KEH just delivered my BGN F w/Ftn Photomic head, it appears that the ring to change the ISO speed is frozen. I read the manual, looks like changing the ISO speed is the standard way, just lift the ring around the shutter dial and twist until your film speed matches the red dot. My metal ring does not want to lift up, no matter how hard I try. Am I doing something wrong or do I just send it back?

Yeah, It should lift up maybe a 1/32" for it to turn freely...
See if you can insert your thumb fingernail between the metal ring and prism body to lift it...if not it sounds like it's stuck...

If they gave you an early Photomic T head instead, the ring will not lift up. Rather there would be two small studs on top to allow you to rotate the top plate to align with the lens speed. Joe

looks like a Photomic FTN, I don't see any lugs so I'm going to assume that you use the ring to change ISO. BTW,the serial is 711xx (on the metering head, not the body). But it's still stuck - would a drop or two of lighter fluid help to unfreeze it.

There is more info on the FTN finder here http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photograph...chaeliu/cameras/nikonf/ffinders/ftnfinder.htm .

So it turns out that a squirt of Liquid Wrench loosened up whatever gunk had accumulated in the head. I'm off to test the meter itself now..
I didn't want to return it to KEH, it was a $72 BGN special and they didn't have any others at that price.

That is good, let us know how accurate the meter still is.

I was testing an FTn prism I have and found that it agrees with the F5's meter or within 1/3 stop...hopefully, it will have a new home soon and get put to good use...that will save me from wanting to buy another body...:bang:
