Probably just a point and shot. Nothing fancy. Need it mainly to take photos of items for sale since my iPhone 4 just doesn't do well for that kind of stuff. Any ideas.:D

how about some older generation m4/3 camera? you can get adapter to use with any legacy lens. Perfect for taking pictures of for sale items.

I went through a similar process recently and narrowed the choice down to an XZ-1 or an X10: then agonized for weeks (during which I was able to use both for extended periods thanks to friends) before buying an X10.

I'm not a digital photographer, and use it only for colour snaps when wanting a change from the True Path of B+W film. Although the XZ-1 is better in some ways, for me the X10's winning points were its high build quality and very fine feel in the hand. In general, I much preferred its ergonomics to those of the XZ-1. Its optical viewfinder is also more convenient than the (very expensive) evf accessory for the Olympus--even though Fuji's frustratingly shows only 85% of the field and no exposure information.

But all this is entirely subjective. Objectively, both are excellent little cameras. I'd advise an extended play with each, if that's possible, before you decide.

D.

For taking photos of items to sell on the large auction site, pretty much anything will do. Getting some simple lighting and backgrounds (even just large sheets of paper) can make a huge difference.

The LX-3 works very good for this, great DOF and super close focus. There is barrel distortion but that really doesn't matter for sale items. Plus it has a hot shoe if you use lights.

This lens was about 2 inches in front of the camera:

Yes, for posting pics of items to sell pretty much any camera would do--sorry, had I read the OP properly I wouldn't have given a largely irrelevant response!

Actually there are some really good points here... many cameras work well for this application. Perhaps score an older LX3 or S90 from ebay.
