Hello, all.

Now I've been using my Leica M6 (made in 1987) and CV 35mm f/1.4 for just over a month. I thought I might post here a little something on that experience with a few photos.

I shoot mainly street photos, and through reading on the history of that craft I naturally felt the urge to try my hand at the Leica. My earlier camera was a Canon AE-1 program with a horrible shutter lag and noise. Not the ideal street tool. So, in a way, it was a liberation to use the M6 for the first time, a little like unhindered shooting.

The first thing I noticed was that I shoot more, I joked saying the camera was a bit like the plant in the little shop of horror, shouting 'Feed me!' as the rolls shoot through it. But in a good way.

Not only do I shoot more, I shoot closer. That may be connected with the fact that with the Canon I mostly used a 50mm lens, but on the Leica a 35. But the quieter shutter and snappier response, along with the wonderful focusing mechanism, add to the aspiring street shooters courage.

Yet I don't think the camera is affecting what I shoot. I get the same gist from the street images made with my ol' Canon as with the new kid on the block. It is just better suited to the task at hand. The hole is still a hole, but I have a nicer shovel. (I really do like the look of that Voigtländer lens, despite the dreaded distortion!)

All in all I couldn't be happier with my new camera. It truly is a wonderful tool, and worthy, in my opinion at least, of all it's praise. That feeling when the shutter is pressed, without affecting the finder image, is quite something.

Next on the agenda is getting a 50mm lens. I'm feeling a bit giddy about it, the thought is enticing. As the saying goes, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship…

Good beginning. Try to get closer, make this exercise: when you are ready to shoot, make one step forward...
