Just announced from Pentax/Ricoh. I wish they had black again, just silver and red.

Faster processing, compatibility with K-mount lenses and a slightly improved sensor. I know I'm about the only one around here who is interested in these but I thought I'd post the news anyway :)

What is kind of fun, and what I will snag, is the new telephoto zoom (80-250mm equiv).

Love the fact there are so many choices of equipment right now...whatever floats your boat!

Hey Kent, the postings I've seen do show a black model in addition to the red and silver models. And I agree that the new longer zoom looks like great fun with that little camera. Nice to see Pentax continuing to support the Q platform. And the price point is even down a bit from the original Q although it is still somewhat pricey. But what a little jewel it is...

you're not. On a German forum I saw a sample pics thread with images made with the original Q. Quite impressive.

When I finally got to handle a Q last year I was really impressed. Not the camera system for me, but the build and finish and overall "I like this factor" was outstanding.

does this thing have an optional evf? i could see where it could be a very interesting complementary tool, but personally i need a vf for extrme telephoto or macro...

Dont forget to check out the zoo photos on page 2 or 3 of that link. :)

Is there any compelling reason to buy a q10 over the original model?

I'd like to play with one. They state it has a slightly revised sensor and that operational speed is much faster. I think the only thing I would like to see is a little better, as in faster, jpg+RAW writing time. That said, it's a minor thing and the current version is by no means a dog in that respect.

In terms of the sensor I imagine the high ISO might be a bit improved, every generation makes a step forward. How big a step, who knows. This isn't the camera for pitch black shooting anyway.

There also are more customization options available for the front dial though I'm hoping that will come to the first version via firmware.

They are as cute as a button but are they selling any? When first introduced last year I took a look at prices and was taken aback. Especially the optical VF for the standard lens. The $250 price (now a still breath taking $200) looks for all the world like egregious price gouging. That plastic bodied finder should go for no more than $100!

The original price screwed the sales here the US I think. From what I understand they did fine in Japan.

The viewfinder is nutty expensive for this type of camera, so true.

The original Q is getting quite cheap these days.

This is a step in the right direction. Pentax appeals to me in a slightly irrational way and the price of the Q nearly cured me of it! Luckily, my Fuji love is bigger. I wouldn't mind having a kick about Q but it would have to be cheap!

Hold on, not so fast Kent. Not only do they come in black, but it looks like brown, orange, and ivory might be out there for you! :) Check this out:

Ahhhh, all is well ;)

I love their little commentary at the bottom bashing it for being for people "who don't care about IQ". Any review where people have obviously never used the item drives me up the wall. Bleh.
