Bag for your Nikon DSLR (D200/D300 size)

In any case there is not just a single answer to this question. Try out few outfits and be sure the stuff is confortable for you. The only bags I would not recommend are the ones which go on one side of the body but are rigid (like ballistic nilon over a semirigid core), everything else could or could not work depending on your taste, how many lenses you bring and how heavy they are and for how long you plan to walk and on which type of terrain.

As I wrote, I have and use LowePro products and they are good quality but so far the best line for me is the Domke. It seems like those who designed all the other lines wanted to make stuff which looks cool but Domke Designers actually use their bags and take pictures (or maybe they just listen what photographers suggest to them).

Cheers, GLF. Right now, I am really just looking for a bag that will accomodate either my D300 & 16-85/ D300, 16-85 & 35mm f2/ D300, 35mm f2 & future 50mm f1.4. I like the Domke bags, but have nothing bigger than the F-5XA & F-5XB, of which I find anything more than a body and lens, or body and two light lenses, I find more than I want to carry. Not sure how other folks manage with so much kit in a shoulder bag, I think my left shoulder would go on strike, lol.

Seems all my bags, while the perfect size for my M3, Rolleicord, or even smaller dslr (D80), that my D300 is just big or rather tall and chunky enough to be an awkward fit. Like many, I like as little bag as possible, which seems to go against the trend among dslr owners of tethering everything they possibly own to their back in some sort of bag that makes carry on luggage look small.

I like to travel light enough when I bring out my D300, and my bag needs would be for something that would take my D300 with either walkabout zoom/ normal prime, zoom and prime, or perhaps in the future 2- 3 primes sometimes.

I have a D700, which is the same depth and length as the D300 but slightly taller, and it fits in the discontinued Tenba Mixx Large shoulder bag, along with the 20-35mm f/2.8 attached, and the 80-200mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.8 in the two lens sections beside the camera, with more accessories fitting in the zippered pouches.

It's not the most rugged though, being only $60, and through lots of abuse and carrying more than 15 pounds of camera equipment day in and day out in my job, it's getting awfully floppy and threadbare.
 
I can just about get my D300, grip, and 17-55 f/2.8 into a Billingham 106, or my Lowepro Stealth Reporter 200.

I need a bigger bag :rolleyes:


That 17-55 though - what a lens ! :D (and what a weight...)
 
That 17-55 weighs nothing compared to the 80-200/2.8 I cut my kit down to the 17-55/2.8 and the 80-200/2.8. That plus the D7000 is as versatile as I'll ever need.
 
D300 plus 17-55/2.8 is a pretty heavy loadout. With grip attached, the rig fits snugly in a LowePro MicroTrekker 200 backpack, and can be carried around in some comfort. I now generally prefer the D5100 w/kit zoom for excellent image quality, light weight, and that fits easily in a Domke F-6.
 
I use a Tamrac Rally 4, over the shoulder bag, which holds my Canon 7D plus Sigma 30mm F 1.4 and Tamron 60mm F-2 nicely.
