Hi!

I went to my local lab to get a 135-film (kodak tri-x 400) developed. It has now been over three weeks and I´m starting to think that it´s gone or something.

If that´s the case, what do you think is a reasonable compensation?

These things happen. It has been happening for years now. I don't think you are entitled to compensatuion for a delay. If it has gone missing htan replacement of the film (if possible is about all). That would be compensating for real and actual damages. Your time, effort, and potential images (even if you think they would have been Pulitzer Prize winners) are not real and actual damages...not is your inconvenience. These things happen.

A lab once lost a roll of mine - got another roll of the same film (Tmax400?). That was the last time I ever sent away any of my stuff - this was the push to really got into B&W developing and printing.

p.s. You really need to ask your lab to give a reason for the delay. When my lab started going from a 1-day turnaround to 3-day then 3-week I asked and was told it was a matter of quantity. I wasn't bringingthem enough for "a run" so they were waiting until they had mroe to process. If by some unfortunate circumstance the film got lost, they have no good reason to hide that from you.
